Red Velvet Cake
There's something about red velvet cake. It's delicious. It's moist. It's simple, satisfying, and always hits the spot. I've made red velvet more than a few times since it's such a popular cake among everyone, including myself :). Last week, a close friend of mine asked if I could make one for his daughter's 4th birthday. [I made a red velvet for her 3rd birthday as well]. So, of course, I was more than happy to bake one again :).
One thing I've been asked by many is, "What exactly is red velvet cake? What makes it so red?" In my opinion, it's a moist chocolate cake that's red in color and frosted with cream cheese buttercream instead of just regular vanilla or chocolate buttercream. The red color of the cocoa is brought out by the combination of buttermilk and vinegar (which reacts to reveal cocoa's natural red anthocyanin), and by adding red food coloring.Continue Reading » related searches : Red
