Romantic Cocktails for Two....
![]() April Fool! Blogging buddy, Carol, at There's Always Thyme to Cook is hosting an April Fools' food party and I'm ready to join in the fun! Please visit her blog to see more fun food pranks for April Foods Day or to share any food pranks that you've done. ![]() I would love to share with you one of my favorite versions of the romantic ballad Cocktails for Two: My 'cocktail' above was made by peeling large radishes, leaving some of the red 'skin' for the veins. Scoop out a hole at the root end with a very small melon ball cutter and insert a pimento-stuffed olive. Freeze the 'eyeballs' in an ice cube tray or, like me, use a mini tart pan filled with water around the radishes. When frozen, float in a 'cocktail' of tomato or V8 juice, vodka optional ;) I found the idea here. These would be fun to make for a Halloween party also! Around the time that Spike Jones made Cocktails for Two famous, there was a crazy fad sweeping college campuses across the United States. Students were swallowing goldfish whole! Ewwwww! There were contests to see who could shallow the most fish. I think we're brave enough to swallow at least one, don't you think? ![]() ![]() Luckily, my goldfish are Swedish Fish candies swimming in a sea of blue jello. The 'seaweed' is green leaf lettuce and the gravel at the bottom of the 'tank' is actually cubed pears. I found this 'recipe' at the same site I shared above. The trick, of course, is allowing the jello to set long enough for the 'goldfish' and 'seaweed' to stay where you place them.
