Secret Ingredient of the Day: Mint
The traditional po?aça is usually made with dry yeast but the below recipe that I would like to share is a modern version of po?aça. It?s easier to prepare than the traditional one. I find it to be lighter too ? but not necessarily in calories though! And it is much crispier. Plus, it has a trendy twist to it, which is the mint flavor!! Yes, mint? Don?t be judgmental? Just try it first? Remember, I wouldn?t share anything that I don?t absolutely adore ;) Oh and last but not least, this recipe is devoted to my dear friend Joyce, who is half Turkish in spirit! Enjoy darling Joyce :) Mint Po?aça* Ingredients: - 2 large eggs (not extra large please!) - ½ cup plain yogurt (for instance, danone or stonyfield plain or lowfat) - ¼ cup melted butter (approximately 60 grams) - ½ cup vegetable oil - ½ cup shredded white cheese (feta cheese) - ½ teaspoon salt - 1 teaspoon dried mint - 3 cups of all purpose flour - 10 grams baking powder - Lots of love Directions: 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. 2. Separate one egg?s yolk and put it aside to use it later. 3. Beat the other egg, yogurt, melted butter (not hot), oil, salt, mint, and shredded white cheese in a mixing bowl. 4. Add flour and baking powder. Knead until smooth (about 1 minute). 5. Roll rounded teaspoons of mixture into balls. (Tip: You can also use an ice cream scoop to do so) 6. Place them about 5cm apart on greased oven trays. (Tip: You can also use a non-stick baking sheet) 7. Brush the tops with egg yolk that you put aside previously. 8. Bake in 350 degrees until lightly browned. 9. Serve warm or cold. 10. Enjoy with loved ones. *Adapted from Fatos Yagci?s Book, Invitation to Tea Time(in Turkish). Qte's tip: Try not to open the oven door too much during the baking process.
