Sundays at one food club: 2010 holiday gift ideas for foodies

By cocina diary ?diary of a foodie (Visit website)

Happy weekend, everyone!  Welcome to Sundays at One Food Club.  I know it is Saturday but I decided to post earlier since I didn't get to play last week :-(  From now on, I'll be opening the link to his blog hop on Saturdays so y'all have time to post your delicious recipes by Sunday.  Anyhow, today I am really excited about my post because instead of a recipe, I want to share with you some great holiday gift ideas for the foodies in your life... or even for yourself ;-)  But before we begin, let me share some cool stuff with you:

- First (and please bear with my excitement), I reached 100 followers!  Woohoo!  Thank you guys for all your supporting comments; you are awesome!

- Second, make sure you update your Sundays at One button with our new one.  I am loving the girlie colors.  They are more me. :-)

- And third, with all the food memes out there, I started compiling a list that I can use as a reference whenever I want to join these great blog hops.  I am all about saving time, and this list helps me with that.  So if you check my sidebar, under "weekly food memes" you can see the latest food memes list I have compiled.   And if you know of any others that I am missing, please feel free to let me know and I will add it.

So let's begin with the gift list.  I divided the guide in two sections: Kitchen Gadgets (and the pricier items, or items I sooooo wish I could have right now), and Other Kitchen Items.

In the kitchen gadgets section, these are my picks:

1. iPAD.  I am one of those people that has a hard time with changes in technology and I had the same feeling about the iPAD.  That is until I saw the new Martha Stewart Living application on this baby, and was a convert.  Now I want one for myself.  Maybe I can be extra nice to myself this year.  To see more about this application, go HERE.  Price: Between $300-$700

2.  Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Due 14-cup Food Processor.  I saw this baby and now I am in love.  Talk about saving time with big jobs, since it offers two workbowls (5-cup and 14-cup) nest together for easy storage.  A large feed tube minimizes prep time by allowing for larger items to be processed.  It also comes with a reversible slicing/shredding disc as well as a chopping/mixing blade.  Price: $89

3.  Jawbone Jambox.  I don't know about you but I need music when I am cooking, but I hate having a clunky stereo in my kitchen and I cannot afford a home surround sound system.  Enter the JJ, a rechargeable speaker that uses bluetooth technology.  It is a little pricey (at $199), but has surprisingly balanced sound for its size. And I love the sleek design.  From tthe reviews I have read, it is worth the price.

4. mypressi TWIST Portable Espresso Maker.  I would love to have this product, especially during a deployment.  I am a coffee geek, and nothing beats a good shot of espresso, so this little gadget is right up my alley  This portable espresso wonder maker has been hailed by Wine Spectator as producing "the best shot of espresso we've had from any portable and most counter-top machines".  Click on the link to see a demonstration of this product; it's pretty cool.  Price: Between $130 and $160.

5. FoodPod from Fusion Brand. The FoodPod is something that obviously was deisgned with accident-prone people like me in mind.  What is the FoodPod? It is a modern silicone cooking tool designed to save time when boiling, blanching or steaming.  It conveniently contains, removes and drains foods like eggs, veggies, shellfish and more in one easy-to-use "container".  Four words: I. AM. LOVING. IT.  Simply convenient.  Price: $20

6.  Jumbo Cookbook Holder.  If you have cookbooks, you probably need a cookbook holder especially if making a recipe towards the end of the cookbooks, which causes the pages to flip over.  And this jumbo version is great for all cookbook sizes.  Price: $35

7. Zoku Quick Pop Maker.  I like to buy products that I can use all-year around and this fits the bill. Now you can create your own customized frozen pops.  Perfect if, like me, you like natural juices without preservatives.  You can now make natural juice pops in as little as seven minutes!  Price: $50

In the "Other Kitchen Items" Section, these are my picks:

1. Muy Bueno Calendar.  From the creator of the amazing Muy Bueno Cookbook blog, comes one of the most amazing food calendars I have ever seen.  The beautiful food photos are stunning and will definitely inspire you to cook.  But here is another reason to be inspired: Muy Bueno has partner with The Denver Foundation to donate a portion of the proceeds from each calendar sale to their Strengthening Neighborhoods (SN) program.  This program helps residents in 10 struggling Denver neighborhoods improve their communities ?from the inside out.?  So anyway you look at it, purchasing this calendar is a great thing.  And for $18.00, you really can't beat this great gift.

2. IceMilk Apron.  I am not a big apron wearing cook, but a friend of mine gave me a beautiful apron from IceMilk and I wear it everytime I can.  These heirloom aprons are beautiful and come with a story.  Preserving family traditions is one of this company's cornestones, and each apron comes in an "heirloom kit" that includes a heritage tags, the story behind the apron design and recipe cards.  All into a beautiful Ball-style mason jar.  Attention to details like this, is what makes me support small companies.  Price: $80

3. Savannah Bee Company Winter White Honey.  There is honey, and then there is honey.  And the Savannah Bee Company makes the best honeys in the U.S. (that is my opinion).  During the winter, my favorite product from this company is the Winter White Honey.  When I first bought it, the description said: From the frosty wildflower fields of the Idaho Rockies, Savannah Bee Company's exquisite Winter White Honey has a creamy texture that melts like snow on the tongue. Pure and clean sweetness with just a hint of fruit and cinnamon flavor.  And for once, I can say that a description really applies.  There is nothing else to add about this, because the description above says it all.  It really is that good.  Price: $15

4. Stonewall Kitchen Holiday Jam.  Of all the gourmet food stores in the world, Stonewall Kitchen is my favorite.  I love all their products, especially their jams.  And of all the jams they produce, none says Christmas season like their holiday jam. Oh. My. God.  Made with pears, cranberries and sweet raspberries, this jam is so delicious that we go through about 4 jars during the holidays.  We use them with everything from toast to cookie fillings.  Price: $10

5. French Macaroons from Sucre New Orleans.  This past summer I had a craving for French macaroons, and after reading an older issue of O Magazine, I read that Sucre patisserie in New Orleans makes some of the best macaroons in the U.S.  So, after ordering online, I received my box and I have to tell you: Oprah was not lying.  These are so delicious, that they remind me of the French macaroons I had in Paris.  Delicious.  This is a thoughtful way of saying Happy Holidays. Price: $20

6.  Chuao Winter Hot Chocolate.  I am a firm believer that hot chocolate powder mixes are horrible.  Mainly because growing up I was spoiled by my abuela, who always made it from scratch using hot milk, a big block of pure chocolate and some other spices.  So, when I was given a tin of this Winter Hot Chocolate as a gift three years ago, I was a little apprehensive.  And then I tried it, and I was a convert.  Made with Venezuelan dark chocolate, this powder blend contains spices like nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, ginger, and some black peper.  The result is a spicy and velvety cup of hot chocolate that is kicked up a few notches.  The perfect drink on a cold day.  Price: $15

So, there you have it.  I hope that I was able to give you some ideas for the foodies in your life.  In the meantime, keep cooking, baking, and enjoying what you do!
