Tahoe Trip ? First Day
Off we went on a three-day trip to Lake Tahoe! Neither Anton or I had ever been there before, so it was a whole new adventure as we took off from Aspen into stormy skies and snowy mountains that the day before had been bare. There were all sorts of delays due to the storms, so by the time we got to Denver we were starving and the restaurant I had hoped to go to in concourse A was…in concourse A, and here we were in concourse B. After checking out all the available prospects, we decided on Paradise Bakery. It is upstairs and open; you can sit and watch everyone going by below. The food is very fresh and there is obviously a high turnover and nothing sits for too long.
I got the Blue Cheese Crumble Salad. The lettuce was fresh and crisp, the blue cheese plentiful, as well as the cranberries! The croissant I got on the side was probably the biggest I have ever seen in my life… Back on a plane. We finally got into Reno and got our rental car, and set off on the last leg of the journey to Lake Tahoe. It was actually a pretty drive, and we were glad that we had gotten there with some daylight to spare. We drove over the hill and had our first view of the lake at twilight, with a sliver of new moon hanging over it. Breathtakingly gorgeous! The pine trees are looong trunks, with the branches starting very high up. It was beautiful even in the dark until we reached our casino hotel, The Horizon, and all of high-rise casino row which to me was a downward drag after all the natural beauty. It was kinda seedy, though I must say that the hotel was perfectly serviceable, the rooms were clean, and the staff was friendly and helpful. We were exhausted, so we went straight to sleep! Day two tomorrow as I’m getting caught up with life today, our first day back! all photos and content © leslie hunter uhl 2010 related searches : Tahoe
