Teluk Pulai Bak Kut Teh, Klang

Posted the 05/05/2009 12:10:00 By Pillow Talk with Bangsar-bAbE (Visit website)

Last weekend, rif was craving good bak kut teh (BKT) so we decided to drive to Klang for a dose of this ?meat bone tea?. I never got around to trying Teluk Pulai Bak Kut Teh because of the distance and lack of "makan kaki" (my friends don't like having BKT during the day... o_0).The drive from Bangsar to Klang took about 20 minutes, without the jam. On a late Sunday morning, it was a full house and we had to wait a while for an empty table. Our bak kut teh came laden with spare ribs, pork chunks, pork belly (with a satisfying amount of fat), enoki mushrooms, fu chuk, tau fu pok and lettuce in a steaming hot claypot. We also ordered 2 portions of yau char kwai (fried crullers) and 4 plates oil rice (rif's parents joined us). The fried shallots gave flavour and aroma to the oil rice. I thought it was decent, but I still prefer yam rice to go with my BKT.The meat was well-infused with BKT flavours, and the melt-in-the-mouth pork belly was simply divine. The pork ribs were cooked till tender and fell of the bone easily. I especially enjoyed the thick, hearty broth, which was slightly gelatinous from the fatty pork. I forgot what tea we ordered (rif?s parents chose it), but I didn?t like the taste of it. It was extremely bitter and hard to drink. The meal costs RM55 for the 4 of us ? RM9.50 per person for BKT and RM5 for the tea.

Ambiance: 5/10
Price: 7/10
Food: 8/10 (non-halal)
Verdict: I?ve only tried a few BKT places, but this is by far the best. I?m definitely going back there!
