The Lion and Rose (Westlake): Gluten-Free menu items
The Lion and Rose, which opened in November, serves up some British and American favorites. The newly opened sports pub has a large amount of flat screens, a nice size bar and patio, as well as an impressive menu. I recently e-mailed the owner of The Lion and Rose to see if they offered any gluten-free menu items. He quickly responded with a full list of gluten-free food choices. For cocktails, they have a full bar with a variety of liquors, including Tito’s vodka (a gluten-free, locally-made vodka), wine and the gluten-free cider, Ace Pear Cider. Gluten-Free menu options with price and descriptions: Appetizers: Angels on Horseback, $8.99: Grilled succulent shrimp wrapped in applewood smoked bacon with our house made remoulade and spring greens with lemon vinaigrette. Sherwood Sweet Potato Fries, $5.79: Strips of crispy sweet potatoes sprinkled with parmesan cheese, fried golden and served with spicy ranch dip. Salads: All should be ordered without croutons South Bank Baby Spinach Salad, $6.99: Fresh baby spinach, thinly sliced mushrooms, red onions and mandarin orange sections. Served with creamy, hot bacon dressing. Highlands Salad, $7.99: Fresh field greens, sun-dried cranberries, currants, walnuts and sunflower seeds. Served with a tangerine balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Lion and Rose Side Salad, $4.29: Baby field greens topped with tomatoes, red onions, shredded cheddar cheese and your choice of dressing. Oxford Chicken Salad, $9.29: Our house made chicken salad on crisp romaine lettuce with Roma tomatoes, red onions, Greek olives and your choice of dressing. Sides: $2.99 a la carte Broiled Tomatoes Bubble and Squeak Mashed Potatoes Sautéed Cabbage Creamed Spinach English Chips Green Beans Grilled Squash British Favorites: Shepherd’s Pie, $8.99: Slow simmered beef and garden vegetables in a rich and hearty gravy, crowned with whipped potatoes and broiled until golden brown. House of Windsor Tenderloin (no bleu cheese or port wine sauce), $15.99: Grilled tenderloin medallions with bacon, walnuts and onions. Whitechapel Chicken and Mushroom Pie, $8.99: Hearty chicken stew with fresh mushrooms, carrots and green peas, crowned with whipped potatoes and broiled until golden brown. Cock-a-Leekie Stew, $8.99: A classic thick and creamy stew of tender chicken, savory leeks and garden vegetables. Warwickshire Beef Stew, $8.99: Traditional slow-cooked stew of tender beef tips and garden vegetables. Corned Beef and Cabbage, $9.99: Corned beef and tender cabbage topped with onion gravy and spicy mustard. Bangers and Mash, $9.99: Grilled English pork banger sausages with whipped potatoes, onion gravy and spicy mustard. Yank’s Favorites: Sun-Dried Tomato Chicken Pasta, $10.99: Substitute with Rice Pasta, tender sliced chicken with garlic, baby spinach and sun-dried tomatoes, tossed in a parmesan sauce.
