Yummy falafel recipe
Falafel is made by grinding chickpeas aka garbanzo beans, adding spices, and frying or baking. It has a somewhat nutty, sweet texture. It is a very satisfying food. Despite sometimes eating it in a gyro or pita bread with veggies, my favorite way to eat it remains. I like to dip it in ketchup. I know, I know, that's not fancy- but that's what I like. :o)
On to the yummy recipe..... You will need: 1 16 oz bag of dried chickpeas, rinsed and soaked overnight 1 diced onion 2 tsp. crushed garlic 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. cumin 1 tsp. curry powder <------ not as good without it! 1 tbsp. dried parsley 2 tbsp unbleached flour <------ to hold mixture together, alternately you can use an egg You will not precook the chickpeas for this recipe. Once the chickpeas have soaked for at least 8 hours, drain them: Grind them up in a blender, chopper, or food processor. Add all of your ingredients and stir well. Now, work the mixture with your hands until it is very well blended: ![]() Now it is time to form balls or patties. To fry: Heat oil in pan and cook until brown. If falafel is not submerged in oil, be sure to flip to evenly brown all sides. After frying, drain and serve. To bake: My preferred method. Lightly oil cookie sheet or pan with oil. I use coconut oil. Place balls or patties on cookie sheet. Brush oil over top of falafel. Bake in oven at 350 degrees until lightly brown and firm. It is better to undercook than to overcook. Overcooked falafel is dry and hard. Falafel that is just right is crispy on the outside and slightly juicy and very flavorful on the inside. So, pass the ketchup..... ![]() (' ?)related searches : Yummy
