Dream job alert: Italy seeks 100 volunteer judges for the Tiramisu World Cup

Sport has its World Cups. Music, Eurovision. And tiramisu... also has its own. Italy is holding the Tiramisu World Cup in October in Treviso, the birthplace of the dessert, and best of all, they are looking for 100 amateur tasters to judge who makes the best version. Yes, you read that right: you can become a judge of tiramisu, that sweet monument based on coffee, cocoa and mascarpone that Italy has given to the world.

The dream job (or the perfect indigestion)

At first glance it sounds like the dream job: travel to Italy, sit in front of endless trays of tiramisu and give the verdict as part of a jury worthy of MasterChef Italy. The reality, however, has another side: the judges must taste dozens of versions in just three days. The bill is simple: coffee, sugar, cocoa and mascarpone multiplied by 240 recipes. For some, a fantasy come true; for others, the most direct route to the binge of the year.

How do you get the bargain?

It's not enough to raise your hand and shout "I love tiramisu"! To qualify for a place, you have to pass a 15-question test on the rules of the championship. No kidding: they want to make sure that, between bites, you also know how to distinguish a savoiardi from a sponge cake or a cupcake soaked in coffee with milk.

Here's the catch

Well, you know it, there’s always a catch. If you were picturing a free flight, a spa hotel, and maybe even a complimentary box of antacids to soothe your tiramisu-induced heartburn… forget it. The championship covers the tiramisu, and not much else. Travel, accommodation, and any post-dessert recovery are on you. That said, the glory of being a judge at a gastronomic competition (and the mascarpone overdose) is all yours to savour.

Do you want to participate as a judge in the Tiramisù World Cup 2025? This is how you can do it

The competition will be held in Treviso from October 10 to 12 and will feature 240 versions of the dessert. To be part of the amateur jury, you must register on September 13 during the so-called click-day on the official website tiramisuworldcup.com.

Only on that day will the form be available, along with a 15-question test on the rules of the championship. 100 volunteer tasters will be selected from among the applicants, who (as mentioned above) will have to cover their travel and accommodation expenses.

If you are not one of the 100, that's okay, too.

Don't worry. If your stomach was already dreaming of a binge and in the end you are not chosen, you can always set up your own championship at home. How? With an Italian-style homemade tiramisu. There won't be an international jury, but there will be a family jury ready to applaud every bite, and the advantage of saving you the test and the trip to Treviso. Here is the recipe:
