For seasoning :


  • Dry roast the moong dhal till you get a nice aroma but do not let it sit in the pan for more than that. We just want to heat up a little bit and thatz it.
  • Soak this dhal for atleast 20 minutes. Clean the rice well. Pressure cook both rice and dhal with salt, pepper,cumin powder for 5 minutes after you get a whistle.
  • In the meantime, take a wide pan and add the ghee and oil. Add the pepper and cumin seeds and go back may be a few steps away as it will pop up and that might hurt ur face.
  • Now add the grated ginger,green chilly,curry leaves one by one and mix it well. Finally add the cashews and fry until it turns crispy .
  • Finally transfer this mixture into the cooked dhal mixture and combine well. If the mixture is too thick u may add a cup of water when the pongal is hot.
  • Or else, you may add a cup of hot water instead of cold water to make it little bit watery. Combine well.
