Alabama's Fried Fish
![]() Louisville football was on TV so we needed lots of food and lots of beer to watch the game. After a few appetizers and some beers, our boyfriends ventured to Over-the-Rhine to pick up some fried fish from Alabama?s Fish Bar. About an hour later, the boys finally returned from their adventure with the fried fish. They waited 5-10 minutes in the packed ?bar.? ?It probably isn?t the best place for you girls to go alone,? the boys told us. We got two orders of the cod to split. An order came with two pieces of white bread, standard French fries, tarter sauce, sautéed peppers and onions for $7.99 (and we ordered a side of cole slaw for $1.50). The chunks of cod fish were simple ? not very seasoned but perfectly crunchy on the outside and flakey on the inside. Actually, my favorite part of the meal was the cole slaw ? creamy, crunchy and sweet. The nice thing was they fry the fish right in front of you so you know it?s fresh and hasn?t been sitting there for days. I?d say it was good, not great. To me, it was your average fried fish with your very average French fries. The only complaint was the location (but I can understand how it?s part of the appeal/ authenticity), the lack of hush puppies (which is a southern/soul food staple in my book), and the mean look on the man?s face behind the counter when Matt asked if they served hush puppies!
