With the voucher he purchased for only P200, we were entitled to a dozen of freshly made cream puffs, originally priced at P439. That’s a 54% discount right there. Besides, we are hardcore cream puff fanatics!

One of the fast expanding healthy food concepts, Chewy Junior has branched out from Singapore to Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and now here in the Philippines, with pioneer outlets set to open in the United Kingdom and the Middle East. The brand transforms traditional desserts into decadent, freshly baked, handcrafted novelties. Chewy Junior‘s all-natural cream puffs exhibit a complex, crispy outer choux pastry packed with melt-in-the-mouth, velvety cream derived from imported vanilla beans.

The puffs were an accidental creation by founder Kevin Ong, who had experimented with a blend of recipes from two different countries. Thereafter, it took him two years to adjust the processes and perfect the puffs. The result was a healthier version; the puffs are baked and not fried and only the finest ingredients and pure, natural dairy products are used.

The remarkable crispiness of the exposed part of the pastry and the distinct chewy insides with the smooth cream enveloping it as you bite set these puffs apart from the others out in the market. Although the creams are available in Classic Vanilla and Hybrid Chocolate only, there is a variety of flavors to choose from: Peanut Butter Crunch, Apple Cream Cheese, Coffee Raisin Crunch, Chewy Ensaymada, and Sugar Pop Crunch, to name a few. With a considerable selection of yummy flavors to fancy, your only trouble would be choosing which one’s your favorite!

Since we had a voucher for a dozen, we decided to split up the puffs. Francis’ half dozen consisted of Blueberry Cream Cheese, Strawberry Cream Cheese, Chocolate Oreo Crunch, Almond Sweetheart, Chewy Original, and Cheese Lover.

I, on the other hand, replaced his Chocolate Oreo Crunch and Chewy Original with Chocolate Madness and Chocolate Almond Crunch and got the same four flavors Francis picked.

The store in Greenbelt 3 was surprisingly small. There weren’t enough tables and seats to accommodate all clients. We wanted to sample our treats as soon as we got hold of them but we had to wait until we reached the parking area. It was in the car where the unboxing of our sacred stash happened. After, of course, taking the mandatory food shots. I attacked victim #1 [a.k.a. Chocolate Madness, pictured above]. As I sank my teeth into the crisp-chewy-gooey-goodness, I was transported to Cloud 9. Truly, my first experience with Chewy Junior was nothing but dreamy and sublime. The chocolate cream was delightfully gratifying but classic vanilla would be my prime choice any day! The Chewy Original was helpless in Francis’ hands. I saw that he was enjoying the moment as much as I was. After consuming our first puffs, regret slapped us in the face. We should’ve gotten ourselves not just one voucher. Oh well.
