Day 1 & 2 of Eating Raw

By Suzanne: Trying to Maintain (Visit website)

Warning: Long post ahead...

It's time to detoxify my body, so this week and next I'm going to be eating as much raw food as possible. I do this usually once or twice a year, and I feel so much better afterwards because of it. Prashant went grocery shopping for me during his lunch break Monday (isn't he the best?) because he works close to a Mother's Market- my favorite grocery store! Mother's is kind of pricey, but it's the best place to buy organic and raw food.

Here's a little of what he came home with, not all of it though... I didn't photograph all the veggies!

Perfect for dipping in some raw hummus...

Can't get enough of these...

This stuff absolutely rocks!

Drool...

Blood oranges...

Isn't everything beautiful?

In case you're wondering why I choose going raw to cleanse my body over other options...

Almost 10 years ago, Prashant and I both became really interested in the raw food principle. We started our research after purchasing this book...

And then after reading this book, we traveled to San Diego for a raw food seminar given by David Wolfe. After hearing what he had to say about eating raw food, Prashant and I were hooked. Shortly after this, we attended another one of his seminars in Orange County where we actually got to sample food, and we were so blown away by how delicious everything was that we went all out and became raw foodists (for quite some time). After only a few months, I felt healthier than I ever had before. It was an amazing experience, so whenever I begin to feel a little "icky" I know it's time to cut out the cooked food and cleanse my body with whole, unprocessed food.

Here are some of the other books we have in our collection about eating living foods...

These are all great resources! By the way, in case you're wondering, I'm not doing this to lose weight- I am doing this because my body needs a break and I can feel it.

For dinner, Monday evening I enjoyed the raw tacos that I found in the bag. I heated the raw tacos in our dehydrator for about 15 minutes as to keep them raw (preserving as much of the nutrients and vitamins as possible).

And then, Tuesday morning I started things off with an organic Raw Revolution Bar and 2 organic Cuties. A really yummy breakfast!

I kept eating periodically throughout the day. At 10 AM, I ate a banana, another Cutie and some raw almonds. Lunch was a big ol' salad with broccoli, shredded carrots, purple cabbage, tomatoes and romaine/spinach. I was eating with co-workers so I didn't snap a picture of it.

When I got home I continued to graze. I'm trying to eat little bits throughout the day in order to keep myself on track. If I allow myself to get too hungry, I may falter and give into cravings, like peanut butter on an English muffin! I'm not gonna lie- I miss my peanut butter! My first snack was an apple... a little while later I had some raw flax crackers with raw hummus (and then I went back for more), a blood red orange and another banana. I was stuffed... I couldn't eat another bite after all this. The flax crackers and hummus were so filling!

Ruby red...

I didn't photograph any of my eats from today- its been pretty much a repeat of the last couple of day so I didn't think you'd mind. :)

Friday morning Prashant and I leave for Vegas! My brother and his wife are going to meet us there for a weekend of fun!! I haven't seen Robert and Jenny since I was home last May, so I'm super excited to see them. It may be hard to be completely raw while I'm there though... I'll do my best and see what happens.

Here's my younger bro swinging my niece Chloe around (my sister's daughter)...

And here's another one of him with his wife Jenny...

Well, that's all I've got for today. Aren't you glad? Its been a long post!

Have a great night blog friends!!
