Earth Day 365: Week Four
So we've started buying produce locally, gotten rid of the paper and plastic baggies in our kitchen, what's next? Well, here in Texas we're having a beautiful spring so I thought we'd take this week's Earth Day 365 Challenge outside. This week's challenge: Plant a Seed Today is Earth Day. One day out of the year when we can spend some time and energy giving back to the planet that gives us so much - the food we eat, the air we breathe, our lives. One simple, yet meaningful activity you can do with your family is to return something to the earth by planting a seed. One of X's favorite Dr. Seuss stories is The Lorax. We've read it a lot but today it really resonates with me, especially when the Onceler tosses the last Truffula tree seed to the boy at the end and says, "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing's going to get better. It's not." So X and I decided to plant his own garden, a seedling sprouter in a recycled egg carton. And stay tuned next Friday as we launch our "Snacks are a SNAP!" campaign in conjunction with Capital Area Food Bank and the Austin Food Bloggers Alliance. related searches : Earth
