Fall Fun
Is it just me or is the fall season quickly flying by? I can’t believe it’s already mid-October!?! Where does the time go?
As you probably know, Fall is my FAVORITE season ever. I love everything about it.
My fall favorites: Cool, crisp weather Vibrant foliage Apple picking My mom?s apple crisp Pumpkin coffee Pumpkin carving Roasting pumpkin seeds Cozy sweaters Hot apple cider Mal?s chili Pumpkin beer I feel like I’ve barely done any of these fall favorites and now the season is slipping away from me. So much fall fun, not enough time! Gah!
Mal and I tried to go apple picking this past weekend, but all of the nearby orchards were picked cleaned.
Breakfast A few weeks ago, Gena sent me a copy of a tiny book called Cooking with Wholegrains. It was written in the 1940′s by the Ortons, a husband and wife pair who owned a bakery and country store. The cookbook was an appeal to the postwar housewife to stop using the refined flours that were becoming so popular in supermarkets, and get back to basics: pure, stongeground, whole flours. Now, sixty years later, the book is being reissued for today’s health-savvy audience. Neat, right?
Well, this little cookbook has a ton of great recipes in it. I’ve already flagged at least a dozen, including one for Oatmeal Bread, which I baked last night for breakfast this morning.
I toasted two pieces of Oatmeal Bread and added Teddie peanut butter and banana slices to it. (I also ended up eating a container of Stonyfield yogurt, but didn’t snap a photo.) On the side, I drank some iced coffee with soy milk.
