Favorite Foods and Products of 2010

By THE CANDID RD (Visit website)

Before I tell you my favorite products and foods of 2010, check out my favorite products and foods of 2009! I just went back to look at these and I couldn't help but laugh. I wasn't doing the low FODMAPs diet back then so on my list was garlic powder. Ummm....so weird! Now I stay away from garlic like the plague.

Here are my favorite new products/foods of 2010 (in no particular order);

Solixir Sparkling Botanical Beverages

Have you heard of Solixir? I posted about it here if you want to read more about it (be sure to see the section in blue, which was provided by the owner of Solixir), and since then I have been hooked. I don't drink it often, but I always have one bottle in my fridge for those days I just don't feel like having coffee. In the winter those days are much more rare, but I still like the carbonation every once in a while.

Sweet Potatoes

This year I became slightly obsessed with sweet potatoes. I consider it a very healthy obsession, similar to my obsession with pumpkin. I haven't turned orange yet, don't worry.

I also started adding it to my oats. Yeah, I know, weird, but oh so good!

Mixed Nut MOJO Bars

I blogged all about these bars on this post. Check it out if you want to learn more about these delicious, and healthy snack bars.

Eggs

No longer do I stick to only egg whites. Eggs are one of the healthiest foods available to man. Check out my post about eggs, here.

Kale

I've always loved kale, but this year I began buying it fresh (vs. canned) and experimenting with it in new, fun ways. I made kale chips, steamed kale with tomatoes, and continue just eating it plain with a sprinkle of nutritional yeast (see my last favorite product, below!). If you have high cholesterol you should know that kale can help lower it, naturally. It's also lower in oxalates, which means you can absorb a lot of its calcium (unlike spinach, which is high in oxalates).

Brown Rice Flour

I love this stuff because it's wheat free and works extremely well in quick breads and my pizza dough (you can use oat bran flour or brown rice flour)! There is usually no need to add xantham gum or any other special ingredient, as this works very similar to wheat flour.

Blueberry Balsamic Vinegar

I can't even put this product into words. It's simply amazing. I add it to salads, use it in dessert recipes, and use it for chicken/meat marinades. Delicious.

Veggie Chips

These are yet another healthy addiction I have acquired. I eat at least a serving of these a day. Yeah, they have similar calories and fat as regular potato chips, but they are made with green beans, sweet potato, yuca root, and other root veggies that are packed with vitamin A and fiber. Yum.

Stevia in the Raw

At first I didn't like this stuff, but now it's all I use! I don't use much, maybe 1-3 packets a day, but it is perfect for adding sweetness to morning oats, smoothies, or plain yogurt.

Nutritional Yeast

Ever since I first posted about nutritional yeast, I've been hooked. I add it to spaghetti squash, vegetables, popcorn (well, I don't eat popcorn anymore, but I used to!), spoonfuls of almond butter, and my new thing, rice cakes. I love taking a rice cake and scooping up a bunch of nutritional yeast onto the cake and then devouring it. I do this when I get the late night munchies and want a light snack. It's perfect. It's even better with almond butter on the rice cake, and then a bunch of nutritional yeast. Yeah, I know you want it!
