Foodie Outing FAIL
All week I was salivating with anticipation over the Grub Street Food Festival that I heard so much about. Its an annual event with all the best food vendors and is only ONE day a year! I didn?t want to go alone so i asked my mom to come with me. She was totally stoked and then had to have emergency surgery on her knee (she?s fine now!) so I told dad about it and dad was like ?heck yes?? what can i say? We like to eat in my fam. So on Saturday morning, i woke up a little later than aniticipated and arrived in Brooklyn to meet dad at noon? the festival started at 10am. When i picked up dad, there was an unexpected visit from grannie? and my Godfather. So one hour later we finally got to leave. I totally underestimated the popularity of this event and at 2pm was greeted by LINES and CROWDS. TWO things this diva CANNOT stand. It wasn?t even a crowd thing because it was totally going to be worth the wait? but i was with my father who is also not a fan of crowds? We walked in to see if we could hit Pies and Thighs and Luke?s Lobster. It was beyond ridic in there that we couldn?t tell where one line began and another one ended. I felt flustered. I felt trapped? and I felt like maybe we should leave? And vowed to be at the festival at 945am next year. So dad and i crawled out of the festival and dad said ?lets go to Katz and get a sandwich?. But i didn?t want a sandwich, so i said ?lets get pesto shark at Bondi Road? But dad doesn?t like shark? so i said ?lets go to the meatball shop? And apparently so did everyone else. We were greeted with a very busy staff at the meatball shop as they were managing dozens of meatball lovers..my father and i took our hungry rumbling stomachs to the hostess and asked her how long the wait was. ?for 2 people? about 45 mins to an hour. But if you like, you can get it to go? So we ordered it to go. Even our order to go took a while. While waiting for my order, I recognized the owner. Being a bit of a dork and a groupie, i introduced myself. Great guy- very friendly and from brooklyn. :-) After about 25 mins, we got our food and hiked back to Williamsburg. And I hated myself for not getting an ice cream sandwich. and hated myself even more for not getting a sexy red velvet when i passed by Sugar Sweet Sunshine. Mom ordered the Rigatoni. With a side of classic beef meatballs in marinara sauce. My Italian mother ate her meatballs and rigatoni and said ?Wow! Where can i find this place?? And she?s a tough crowd to please when it comes to her palate so: Meatball shop, Job well done! Great Minds Think alike, so dad and I ordered the creamy risotto? and classic beef meatballs with a spicy sauce. While i was a little bummed that i didnt enjoy the festival in all its foodie glory, i am glad I got to finally show my parents the wonder that is the Meatball Shop and even more stoked that they loved it and want to go back! Dont you love when things work out to your benefit in the end??? related searches : Foodie
