Graze-Free...

By Skint Vegan (Visit website)

As those of you who follow me on TwaTwitter will know, me and the mini-SVs have been struck down with swine-flu this week. So, as our eating has been focussed on getting better (lots of hot and sour soup with extra ginger and garlic) and using up our fridge contents (more to follow in my next post), I decided to post about a little treat we recieved through the post on Friday morning instead.
I was tipped-off by my favourite money-saving website to the opportunity of getting a free snack box of all-natural goodies from a new company called Graze. Designed for those of us who are sometimes too busy to ensure a healthy diet, you can get weekly, twice-weekly or even daily delivery of their custom-made boxes of fresh and dried fruit, nuts, seeds, crackers and olives.

My small Graze box - post-Ho-Tep... l-r: white seedless grapes, 'americas' nut mix, dried raspberries

You pick your size of box, tell them what kind of things you want in it and what you definitely don't want in it, and Bob's your Uncle! A delicious, healthy snack box delivered to your door or desk as often as you like it! No more excuses for that hash-brown roll or greasy bag of crisps - as long as you can wait it out till the postman comes, your snacking needs for the day are taken care of.
Now, obviously, as a happy SAHM, I have absolutely no need for this in my life at all. And even as my little chitterlings were excitedly tearing the swish cardboard box apart and brandishing the cute little pods of white seedless grapes, mixed pecans, almonds and brazils and dried raspberries at me for opening, I was thinking 'God! For the price of a box I could get this stuff in a 500g bag in Asda and portion it out for at least a fortnight!'
But I am incapable of saying 'no' to anything free. My potential alternate life as a crack-whore has been avoided purely because nobody ever offered me any crack for free. So when I see a promotional code for something cute, vegan-friendly and healthy - and I don't have to pay for it - it doesn't take me long to sign up for it. And my kids were really sooooo excited to think they had a parcel that was expressly for them - they horsed it all long before tea-time! For a small-sized box, it was a generous portion and there was a nice contrast between fresh and dried fruit and nuts. I'm really pleased to see a service like this happening, because it's about time, quite frankly. If I worked full-time down in London, lived exclusively on black coffee and fags and wanted to convince myself that despite only having a bottle of vodka and some cheesestrings in my fridge at home I did actually have a healthy diet, I would definitely sign up for it - it's relatively cheap, ethically produced and very stylish. But at the end of the day, I have the time and the inclination to do all this myself. God gave me tupperware and Asda's wholefoods section and for that reason, there will be no repeat orders at Skint Vegan Towers. Unless the kids are having a birthday or something.
