Kitchen redo and a pork roast

By (Visit website)

It’s painting time! It’s painting time! (said in a sing-song way) I say that with excitement because we have been in our current home for exactly 16 years and 1 day today and we are just now starting to finally paint the kitchen. I think we put the pro in procrastination!  It’s been 2 years since I picked out the colors and they are still to my liking. It’s just life kept getting in the way of painting and buying the paint. I think the breaking point came this winter as I began blogging and taking pictures of food in my blah colored kitchen. My husband said if the walls and cabinets were painted the pictures could be better.I’ll take that! Maybe you’ve noticed the blue painters tape in my pictures? But you are all too nice to comment on that! Whatever gets my kitchen painted. I’m not blaming him by any means because we both procrastinate way too much. I’m just glad he really got serious this time about painting. Neither of us know much about painting so this ought to be quite interesting.

I started thinking just how am I going to cook and make great food in the midst of furniture and appliances being moved about?  I am all about making do because I have had to for so long. I wish I was getting more than a repainting job in there but we can’t afford more than paint at this time. I would love to remodel to get a bit more counter space and a dishwasher. But I will still make do with what I have as it’s more than most in this world. I decided to pull out my slow cooker to cook the pork roast I planned for dinner. It was a good idea as my hubby started pulling doors off of cabinets, painted some gray primer for the red wall and moved the fridge out so it’s kind of hard to open the oven right now.  The funny thing is I decided at the last minute to also make some homemade pasta last night even with my kitchen in such disarray. It all came out good. I am going to let you see my before pictures as a way to keep us accountable to stay on track.  Scroll down for the pork roast recipe and pictures.

I really like the shelves from the 1950’s ranch style of this house. I plan to put different things on them after the painting. The wall behind the sink will be red and the other walls will be a yellow color. All the trim and cabinets will be a white color. I can’t wait. On to the food!

Drunken Pork Roast

2 pounds of pork loin roast

5 cloves of garlic, chopped

2 sprigs of rosemary

salt and fresh ground pepper

1 wine glass full of dry white wine or about 3/4 cup

Put roast in slow cooker, top with garlic, salt and pepper. Pour wine on top of roast and around. Add in rosemary. Cook on high for 3-4 hours or low for 6-8 hours, all depending on how your slow cooker works. It’s done when the inside temp is about 160 degrees.

Slice and serve with fresh pasta if you like!
