I believe in having options even in my martini recipes - you never know when you might want to have a particular favorite designer martini and be out of one of the key ingredients! Often you can adjust a martini recipe to work with what you have on hand which is exactly what I had to do the other day when I was out of fresh lemons and wanted a Lemon Drop Martini.

It's been so bloody hot here lately that a cool, refreshing Lemon Drop Martini is just the ticket to beat the heat of hot summer days. But. . . .I was out of fresh lemons! Luckily, I did have a nice little can of frozen lemonade tucked away in my freezer so I "made do" as my Mom used to say and spooned some of the undiluted frozen lemonade into my shot glass instead! I left out the sugar the first time around because frozen lemonade is already sweetened but I found it was not sweetened enough for me and added one teaspoon of powdered sugar. This not only sweetened the lemon, it gave it a nice creamy froth too!

I call this emergency "MacGyver" lemonade martini a Lemon Aide Martini because it was exactly that on a hot day - lemon aide.
