Lui Cha King Restaurant

By Mimi'sDiningRoom (Visit website)

Let's go healthy today :)

Lui Cha (??) literally means "pounded tea" in Mandarin. A Hakka tea-based beverage or gruel consisting of a mix of tea leaves and herbs that are ground or pounded together with various roasted nuts, seeds and grains. Accompany the soup normally is rice with various topping of nuts, dried tofu, dried shrimps, long beans, picked preserved radish (??) & vegetables.

How to eat this?

Majority will mixed all the rice & topping then pour in the greenish soup OR some will prefer eat them separately.
RM 6.50 / bowl

How's it taste?
The greenish soup was pretty mild in taste which I barely tasted any bitterness from the tea leaves & herbs, suitable for those who never try this food before. The combination of the vegetables & nuts give a fresh & crunchy texture while the preserved radish added the salty twist to it.

Where to have this?
A Lui Cha specialties restaurant at my neighborhood , featured in Ah Xian's TV program before.

Banner & photos endorsed by Ah Xian proudly presented on the wall in the restaurant.

The big ceramic bowl on top of the cabinet is using for pounding the tea, seed & nut & only guava branch is used for the pounding process.

Clean & bright interior with minimal decor.

The menu has quite limited choices, mostly are Hakka cuisines. Other than Lui Cha, we also had a few snacks.

Hakka Yam Abacus ???(RM 8.00)
One of my favorite Hakka food. Love the chewiness of it. Fried with dried shrimps, mushrooms & coriander. This was quite different with what I had at Ying Ker Lou where the colour of the abacus was dark purple (perhaps different type of yam used?) & this topped with bonito flakes (fusion? and we found that the tastes of both bonito flakes & abacus were not so match =.=")

Chives Pancake (RM 1.00 / pcs)
The pancake reminiscent me that my mom used to prepare this to us. Pancake with lots of chives fried until golden brown at edges but still remain the softness. Love it!
Mom, when can we have this again? :P

Fried Tofu with Salt Pepper
Slightly battered silken white tofu then sprinkled with salt pepper. A very moreish snack indeed!
