Mint infused simple syrup recipe ?great for drink and?drinks!
My (organic) mint plant has become more of a menace than anything else. Growing leaps and bounds daily ?vertically, horizontally via runners, diagonally, and probably upside-down, this aggressive perennial was about to conquer and reign king of the garden and entire backyard. Now, mint does have its culinary uses ?it?s great on watermelon, fine on salads, and a staple in Greek food. All fine and well. However, none of these applications would have put much of a dent in the beast. No, drastic action was needed: cutting the guilty and burdensome stems and leaves away for mint infused simple syrup. Yes, simple syrup: a once boiled and in its current and proper state a liquid solution containing equal amounts of water and dissolved sugar (neep?). Great in drinks. Alcohol. Booze. Now that I have your attention? Ingredients: 1.5 cups white sugar 1.5 cups water A handful of mint leaves. Garden grown is far superior than that ‘mint’ found in supermarkets. Directions: Add all the ingredients to a sauce pan and simmer for 5 minutes. Make a note to muddle the mint to release its oils. ![]() A very liberal handful of mint, and just a small part of the beast ![]() Simmering away Strain the now mint infused simple syrup and add to a jar. Once cooled store in the fridge. ![]() Mint infused simple syrup napalm Serve in: The best mojitos and mint juleps (so underrated) you?ve ever had. And the best your friends have also had.
