Nina's 4th Birthday

This cake was a bit last minute, so was a bit sloppy in its finish. The icing was basically food colouring with icing sugar, so as to get the depth of colour. I used a strip of cardboard to make the shape of the head and separate the red and blue from bleeding in together. Once the icing had set I removed the cardboard and placed white paper eyes on, then used black gel icing in a tube to do the web effects and cover the joins of the 3 different colours.

Improvements I would make are using proper piped icing to do the webbing, and giving myself a lot more time to actually decorate it neatly, 20 mins was not quiet enough! This style of icing really drys out the cake too, so the packet mix chocolate cake was very average as a result.

The girls were thoroughly hyperactive after eating this cake. Food colouring over dose.
