Rice Dream
When I recently published an update of my Casein Free Substitutions as part of the GFCF Guide, I had mentioned that Rice Dream milk was not considered to be GFCF. I had assumed this was the case since the website www.gfcfdiet.com still contains a warning about Rice Dream. Commenter Jen noted that she uses Rice Dream for baking, and that their website listed it as gluten free and dairy free. I decided to check into this further, so I asked my #1 source for dairy free information - Alisa at Go Dairy Free.
Here is Alisa's response: Hi Thomas, all of the Rice Dream products are casein-free - but check with the individual products if trace amounts are a concern. Some of course may be packaged or produced on shared equipment, but they are certified OU-parve, so at the very least there is rigorous cleaning between batches or a dedicated line. As for gluten-free. The Rice Dream beverages are labeled as gluten-free and contain less than 20ppm of gluten. Here's the low down: http://gfcfblog.blogspot.com/2008/07/is-rice-dream-gluten-free.html and http://www.tastethedream.com/info/qa_ricedream.php#faqid474. So there you have it - Rice Dream is considered GFCF. I hope this clears up any confusion, and much thanks to Jen for bringing this to my attention, and to Alisa for the clarification. related searches : Rice
