SiliconeMoulds.com Pink Muffin/Cupcake Tray Review & Double Chocolate Marshmallow Muffin Recipe
The lovely Sarah-Jane of Siliconemoulds.com contacted me a little while ago asking if I would like to review some of her silicone bakeware products, of course I jumped at the chance and couldn't believe it when a fantastic box of goodies landed on my desk yesterday. As well as this adorable pink cupcake/muffin tray I will also review the gorgeous selection of cupcake cases Sarah-Jane sent and a fondant rolling mat. The rolling mat I ?have already had a little go on and I suspect it is far superior to what we use at the bakery at the moment but I'm going to use it for a few days before reviewing so more on that later. I decided to make some yummy muffins this morning and thought this would be a brilliant opportunity to test out the gorgeous pink silicone cupcake tray. Firstly can I just say, as much as I love my usual bakeware, none of it is pink and I love the way this looks in the kitchen. It is really easy to store and as I have just discovered, due to serious melted marshmallows, really easy to clean too. You can tell by the feel of the tray that it is not like some of the cheap flimsy ones you often find on the market, it is definitely designed to be more heavy duty and if you check out their site Siliconemoulds.com you will find hundreds of both traditional and totally unique products all made in the same high quality silicone. The silicone muffin tray needs to be placed on a baking tray and lightly greased if not using papers. I decided to make half my muffins in paper cases... and half without so I could compare the results. The muffins in cases were exactly as you would expect, Sarah-Jane had warned me that muffins/cupcakes will cook a little faster in silicone bakeware, which they did but apart from that everything was as normal. They rose beautifully and the texture etc wasn't altered remotely. For the muffins baked without cases I lightly greased and dusted with cocoa powder, as suggested by Sarah-Jane. The muffins did not rise quite as much ?and baked slightly faster again but there was not even the slightest hint of the muffins sticking, they were easily removable the second they came out of the oven despite still being warm and melted marshmallows galore. Both muffins were identical in taste and texture. I have heard many celebrity chefs singing the praises of silicone bakeware and it's easy to see why, silicone takes out so much of the risk factor. There is nothing more disappointing than lovingly baking a cake only for half to stick to the bottom of the tin when you turn it out. Silicone is known for its amazing non stick properties and makes removing cakes, both big and small a breeze. I love the stunning array of colours silicone bakeware comes in and would have loved something like this at Uni as it is so much easier to store and transport. I am also amazed at how inexpensive, not just this product but all the Siliconemoulds.com products are, this tray cost about a 3rd of the price of my normal ones. As far as I can see there is only one downside to silicone bakeware and this is adjusting baking times, my muffins cooked about 5 minutes faster than normal which is quite a lot but as long as you bare that in mind you won't have any problems. I think this tray would make a fantastic gift for a young girl who loves to make and anyone who is just starting out in their baking adventures would find this invaluable. I can't wait to try making my donut muffins in this because no matter what I do they seem to stick. Before I get to that glorious muffin recipe here are a couple of other gorgeous items I'm dying to get from Siliconemoulds.com, (all pictures lovingly borrowed from their website). Perfect for Valentines day Red Heart Shaped Silicone Muffin Tray The Say It With Cake Range is amazing and I want the word CAKE so badly it hurts! The whole word is £4.07! That is such a bargain! Also I know that I wouldn't have a problem removing the letters from the moulds so I might have to order this one very soon. You can by the entire alphabet, individual letters and full words like CAKE, I love it! Also lets just take a moment to appreciate the gorgeousness of the cake itself! I'm thinking Sarah-Jane made it herself, she is a very nifty baker as you will see if you visit the Silicone Moulds Blog. I could post twenty other items but I will save that for the next review and just give you a sneak peek of some of the stunning cupcake and muffin cases Sarah-Jane sent me. They have a fantastic range of cupcake cases on Siliconemoulds.com and I will definitely be making some pretty valentines cupcakes in the lovely heart design ones. So without further ado here is, as promised a glorious muffin recipe which I highly recommend you baking in a pretty pink silicone cupcake tray. Double chocolate marshmallow muffins Recipe adapted from Home Bake by Eric Lanlard Makes 12 muffins (I made 18 muffins with this batter) Preparation time: 10 minutes, + cooling Cooking time: 20 minutes For the muffins 2 large eggs 175ml (6fl oz) vegetable oil 300ml (10fl oz) milk 500g (18oz) self-raising flour a good pinch of salt 2 tsp baking powder 4 tbsp pure cocoa powder 250g (9oz) caster sugar 4 tbsp dark chocolate nuggets/chips 150g (5oz) mini marshmallows Preheat the oven to 200ºC (fan 180ºC)/400ºF/gas mark 6. Line a 12-cup muffin tin with muffin papers. Put the eggs and vegetable oil into a large jug and mix them together, then mix in the milk. Next sift the flour, salt, baking powder, cocoa powder and sugar together into a large bowl. Now add the jug of egg mixture to the bowl of dry mixture and mix until it all comes together. Fold in the chocolate nuggets. Scoop enough batter into the muffin papers to half fill them. Divide about three-quarters of the mini marshmallows between the centres of the muffins, and then top with the remaining batter. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes until the thin blade of a knife inserted comes out clean. Leave to cool on a wire rack. related searches : Siliconemoulds Com
