Soon Soon Teochew Porridge!
wow time flies and it's already wednesday and 8 lunar months had passed!
i am sitting here eating the crispy skin yam mooncakes and that means.... Happy Mid-Autumn Festival everyone! hope everyone's going to enjoy eating mooncakes, sipping chinese tea with your family and don't forget to notice how beautiful the moon is going to be tonight! i want to carry lanterns, burn lots of candles and play with sparklers!! do i sound like a kid? =X anyway, no i am not blogging about mooncakes today. there's tons of mooncakes from different places to begin with but apparently and surprisingly i'm not craving for them this year! haha besides, my camera's still on a holiday in Switzerland with my aunt...hmmm so no mooncake posts but a teochew muay (???) post! hehe... 5th Sep 2010: my mama's crave for ???... it was a cloudy and cool evening and my family and i didn't have much idea what we want to have for dinner that Sunday evening until my mama blurted out that we should go have the teochew muay (???) since we're planning to have a walk at the nurseries near Kovan MRT station...????? though it's a dark stretch, the walk up into the small street from Upper Serangoon Road was no where near being quiet! there's people walking up and down the stretch or in actual fact, heading to the same place as where we're heading or leaving the place with smiles or with packed food. Yes, the brightly lit shophouse and the only one opened at that time along the stretch is buzzing with activities. the simple food stall... standing in queue with my mama to order our dishes, i noticed that there are actually really quite a few people in front of us coming here just to buy take aways. Some are even still in the bike helmets and standing in queue... oh yeah, then so you pick your choices, pay and tell them where you are going to be seated and they will serve it right up to your table! :) the spread! :D and not forgetting the main lead, the plain congee... :) ok, basically i don't know the exact names of the dishes because obviously there isn't a menu so just a simple naming with the memory of what i ate and if i make any mistakes, pardon me please! hehe... :D stir-fried chicken in dark sauce, ginger and spring onions brinjal (eggplant) with minced pork, shrimps and sambal chilli... tua kua (beancurd) with leek steam fish in spicy fermented bean paste fried pork chop "drowned" in braised dark sauce... fried tofu with braised minced meat... daddy and mama already enjoying their dinner while i work... my carbon-copy aka my sister! haha... spending approximately about $30 only for a meal for the 4 of us with so many dishes and 6 bowls of congee, i must really say this is absolutely worth it! Did i actually forget the part that the place is fully air-conditioned? haha! and they actually took over another shophouse unit 2 doors down to house more seats for the people eating in! Awesome! :D ?????
