The Trick to Making Ice Cream Taste Even Better!

By Iowa Girl Eats (Visit website)

After we filled up Ben’s gas tank last night, we headed to The Max Culvers!

Culver’s is best known for their juicy burgers served on a buttered bun – or if you ask Ben, their cheese curds – but I go for the silky, velvety smooth frozen vanilla custard

and cookie dough. Lots and LOTS of cookie dough! I was temporarily seduced by their Caramel Cashew flavor of the month, but in the end I could never stray from my one, true love…

a scoop of said vanilla custard and cookie dough topping. I repeat, lots and LOTS of cookie dough!

I once heard Giada de Laurentiis say that most ice creams/custards are served too cold. When it’s too cold, you can’t truly taste the flavor. It’s so true! Take a bite of ice cream right out of the freezer. Then let some melt in a dish for a couple minutes and try it again. You’ll absolutely notice a difference. So yum!

I let my custard melt for a couple minutes before digging in, and it was pure bliss. Awesome!

I kept things a little more healthy for breakfast this morning, and made a Spinach, Egg & Cheese Breakfast Sandwich!

Why pay $5 for a breakfast sandwich out, when you can make your own at home for mere ch-ch-ch-change?!

All I did was combine 1 egg + 2 egg whites, some salt and a little hot sauce in a small, microwave safe dish.

I whisked everything up and microwaved for 60 seconds. After that, I continued to microwave and stir every 20 seconds until my eggs were cooked. SO EASY!

Meanwhile, I toasted up an EarthGrains Thin Bun, added a slice of cheddar cheese, and a few more drops of hot sauce.

Topped with my microwaved eggs, and some fresh spinach for a 2 minute breakfast sandwich! This was so great! The eggs get SUPER fluffy in the microwave and melt the gooey, cheddar cheese. Oh yum. Why haven’t I done this before?!

With a Raspberry Cheesecake Fat Free Yogurt – why, this is a breakfast I’ll surely be repeating. :)

For lunch I’m packing more greens in a Vegetable Salad!

DSC_0010

Like I always say – chop once, enjoy twice! I actually made this salad on Sunday evening when I made Monday’s salad. It was all ready for me to grab and go this morning. :D

In the mix:

Veggie salad mix
Spinach
Broccoli
Carrots
Dried cranberries
Peanuts

Someone asked me how big my salad containers are – these containers hold 64 ounces, which is…8 cups?! 8O

I’d say, with toppings, this is about 6 cups. Holy moly!

I stocked up on my favorite Larabar flavor Peanut Butter Cookie last week when they were on sale for $1/each and brought one for snacking on this afternoon.

LOVE, love, LOVE this bar. Tastes just like a homemade, chewy peanut butter cookie but with NONE of the added sugar or fat. Unlike my, cough, culverschocolatechipcookiedoughsundae, cough.

Well, it’s another rainy day in the neighborhood… It’s been raining practically non-stop for three days now, yet somehow there is always a sliver of clear weather exactly when my Mom and I take our morning walks. How convenient. ;)

Happy hump day!

What was your very first job?

Mine was…a bagger at our local grocery store! So shameful – it was the worst!

From the time I was 14-18 I had about, oh, 10 jobs?! From dry cleaning attendant, to lifeguard, swim instructor, day camp counselor, barista/professional coffee drinker – I did it all at one point or another!!
