Thrifty Thursday: Posh Coffee on the Cheap
I love me a nice vanilla soya latte from a coffee-shop, but my conscience and my purse really don't! So, with my thrifty head on the solution is obvious. I have a plain old coffee percolator - (well, I say that, it's an old-fashioned Cona coffee percolator and I love it like an inanimate child!) and a whisk attachment for my hand blender that is too flimsy to be of any real use for anything other than frothing hot milk up.All I have to do is make a pot of coffee on the stove and in the meantime heat some soya milk in the microwave and froth it up with said attachment before pouring it into my extra-large coffee mug. Pour your coffee in on top and you have yourself a creamy, frothy, faux-latte that you can enjoy as is or sprinkle some cinnamon, vanilla sugar or cocoa powder on top for a touch of easy indulgence. If you want to recreate that coffee shop vibe, why not invite some friends round, put on an early '90s Acid Jazz compilation CD, make some vegan biscotti and add a touch of flavoured syrup to your coffee? These are a synch to make as you're basically making a simple syrup that you add some kind of flavouring to. Again, far cheaper than buying yukky commercially-produced syrups and you can adjust the flavouring to suit your individual tastes. Chocolate Gingerbread syrup? Go for it! Coconut Banana? Each to their own, I guess... For more information check out Steven's blog for a detailed how-to guide to making syrups, in fact, just check out his blog anyway because he's come up with the brilliant theme of 'MoBo' for this year's Mofo which is keeping me inspired and entertained in equal measures.![]() No mess, no waste, no packaging to worry about recycling and all for a fraction of a cost you would pay in a coffee-chain. Sounds good to me! related searches : Thrifty
