Truffle Me and My New Toy

By Kitchen 37B (Visit website)

Today was a good day... yes, in spite of the gale winds. I understand the unstoppable forces of nature, but these winds are just *whew*! Blowy is as blowy is!

After a lunch of Chinese yummies at the mall, we hopped over to the Warehouse where I picked up an ingredient scale. I promised that on my next pay day, I would splurge on one. No more measuring cups for me! I picked up what I thought I needed. When we got home, I headed straight to the kitchen (*I know this line makes it sound like I've got a huge house where I head towards something. Don't be fooled. The truth is, I walked through the front door, made an abrupt right and took a step into my kitchen!*).

Excited about working with precise measurements, I hurriedly took my new toy out of its box. I reached for the first ingredient I needed - Cocoa. My recipe called for 30g Cocoa. Excited, I took out a spoon and reached in from some Cocoa. As I was about to put into the scale, I realised I couldn't find the 30g line... or the 50g line... or even the 100g line! Wah!! The scale I got was for bigger measurements! Deflated, I put the cocoa aside and asked the husband to take it back and get an exchange. He came back with a *cheaper* one... but not quite as flash as the first one I'd picked up.

Now having said that, I measured everything!! Even the butter, which has pre-weighed gram lines on the wrapping... Fun!! It kinda makes me feel good to know that something as simple as a weighing scale can make me giddy. Someone asked me the other day if I felt any kind of suppression on account of my obviously unexciting life based on the equally unexciting fact that I have been to as many as 2 bars in my lifetime. Ok no - 5 bars. The Truth? 3. har!

Now this made me think: *Oh my Gawwwddd! Am I so boring that someone would actually ask me if I didn't on some level feel I had a suppressed glimmer of woohoo somewhere inside of me?* I did give it some thought, but then I answered the only possible answer I could come up with: *I'm either done with that, or I'll probably look for it later on. Chances are, my girls will hit the bars themselves before I even think of visiting one on my own*. Hahaha! Ok I'm boring! :D But no, really now... I'm glad to know that I still am excited by the simple things. Forget weighing scales in the bathrooms though! I've given up on those a looooong time ago! Note to self: Don't ever get on a bathroom scale!

I love my knew toy.... oh! And did I mentioned it weighs smaller quantities like cocoa for these truffles? Mmmmm....

Truffles

250ml Double Cream
250g Dark Chocolate, Chopped
250g Milk Chocolate, Chopped

For Rolling:
30g Dessicated Coconut
30g Cocoa Powder
30g Ground Almonds

In a saucepan, heat the cream stirring occassionaly, until it bubbles around the edges. Add the chopped chocolates (dark and milk). Mix for 20 seconds, and remove it from the heat. Let the mixture sit until the chocolate starts to melt. Mix well until combined.

Transfer the chocolate mixture to a bowl and if you like, you can add 2 tablespoons of liqueur or rum. I didn't because I've got kids!! :) Mix well, and chill it in the fridge for 20-30 minutes until the mixture is set enough for you to roll into balls.

Once the chocolate is firm enough, take a spoonful and roll it into a ball. Roll the ball into a bowl of dessicated coconut and coat well. Repeat with the others, rolling in either the dessicated coconut, cocoa powder or ground almonds. It's a flexible recipe, so you can use any coating like toasted nuts or sugar icing or whatever your taste buds fancy!

Chill the truffles until they are well set.

Keep away from kids... they love them!!
