Warm Cozy Cinnamon Eggnog
As if I wasn't anxious enough, the cold weather is the most prominent reminder that Christmas is so close! Oh how I've missed blogging. It's only been a week since my last post but it feels like forever. And a day. Tomorrow is the last of my exams and then starts my Christmas holidays. I thought it would have been the hardest week of my life, but once again God has proved that he's bigger than the law monster! With that said, almost in celebration of the end of this dreadful week, I felt the need to blog post. This is the first time I've tasted eggnog. My dad loves it. He's raved about it for years. I've always been to scared to try it. This morning I decided...why not? In two words: unexpected amazement. When I say it was good, I mean it was REALLY really good. Creamy, warm and perfect to put you to sleep. I probably shouldn't have drank this in the middle of the day... I had images of curling up next to my imaginary fireplace. Mind you, it would come in handy in times like this where it's half impossible to go to sleep without a sweater and definitely impossible to sleep with the fan on. I'm very happy I got over my "fear" and gave this a try. I'll definitely be making a huge pitcher of this sometime this holiday. Due to receiving constant harping about salmonella poisoning, I couldn't possibly drink this with uncooked eggs as so many recipes have. As such, although the recipe I used ensured the heat from the milk cooked these eggs, my paranoia geared me to some extra cooking. I'm quite glad that I did. I think it enhanced the flavours even more to lead to something near perfection. It's true, i'm converted. P.S. - Add some bourbon when you don't have an exam to study for. It tasted quite fine without it but many have sworn that bourbon tips the taste just over the top. If you give it a try, do let me know! I'm counting down the next few hours to when I will be "free at last, free at last"; free to blog post, sip eggnog, and reminisce on tonight's finale of Dexter. Did you watch it? It was AWESOME. Warm Eggnog Adapted from No Recipes 2 large eggs 1/3 cup sugar 1 cup half and half or whole milk 1/2 cup cream 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/3 cup brandy or bourbon (optional) nutmeg cinnamon Bring 2 eggs up to room temperature (run under some hot water to do this quickly). Add the eggs to a blender and blend on high until a light creamy yellow color. In a small saucepan, heat 1/3 cup sugar with the half and half and cream over a gentle heat until you can see steam rising off the surface and some bubbles start to form around the edges of the pan. With the blender running, slowly pour the hot milk mixture into the eggs through the lid. Add the vanilla and continue blending the eggnog for about 30 seconds. Return the mixture to the saucepan and heat over low heat, constantly stirring, for about another minute or two to ensure eggs are cooked. If you want to make your eggnog alcoholic slowly pour in up to 1/3 cup brandy or bourbon into the running blender. Serve hot in small glasses with some nutmeg or cinnamon freshly grated on top. related searches : Warm
