Don't make this mistake: 7 foods you should never put in an Airfryer

The Airfryer has established itself as a must-have in the modern kitchen, offering faster, healthier cooking. But not all foods are compatible with this appliance. Some may lose their texture and flavor, or even damage the appliance. To avoid mistakes, here are a few tips made in Petitchef ;-)

1. Water-rich fruit and vegetables

Water-logged vegetables, such as broccoli or green beans, become "fibrous and bitter" and lose their water-soluble vitamins in the heat. The same applies to water-rich fruits such as kiwis and clementines.

Alternative: Prefer firmer fruits, such as apples or pears, which stand up better to cooking.

2. Fragile white fish

Some white fish, like monkfish, have flesh that is too delicate for the Airfryer. The flesh will dry out completely and may not be palatable.

Alternative: Opt for fish with firmer flesh, such as salmon, preferably marinated before cooking.

3. Rice and pasta

Dry rice and pasta cannot be cooked on dry heat. Without water, they will burn and damage your appliance.

Alternative: Cook them in water before reheating them in the Airfryer if necessary.

4. Dishes in sauce

Simmered dishes or dishes in sauce are likely to run and cook poorly. For appliances with the heating element underneath, this is virtually irrecoverable.

Alternative: Choose drier dishes and adapt the cooking process by adding little sauce.

5. Popcorn

The Airfryer is not designed for making popcorn. The corn could jump out and come into contact with the heating element, increasing the risk of fire. You have to be very careful if you want to try this method to make popcorn!

Alternative: Use a popcorn maker or a pan with a lid.

However, it is possible to make popcorn safely in the Airfryer - the proof is here!

6. Raising agents

Homemade brioche or sandwich bread don't have time to rise properly because of the Airfryer's rotating heat.

Alternative: Use a conventional oven for these proofing doughs.

By following these tips, you'll optimize the use of your Airfryer while preserving the quality of your food.
