Why this recipe will become your favorite noodle recipe ;-)
Instant noodles are often associated with a quick but dull meal... But with a few extra ingredients, you can turn them into a real feast! Imagine perfectly cooked noodles, mixed with juicy meat and served with mushrooms. All spiced up with a tasty sauce that combines the saltiness of soy sauce, the sweetness of honey, and a little kick of heat thanks to gochujang!
Recipe ingredients (and alternatives)
For this recipe, you'll need :
- Instant noodles: A classic packet will do, but feel free to explore with soba or rice noodles!
- Ground beef: Frozen or fresh, the choice is yours. But feel free to vary with chicken, marinated tofu, or even shrimp if you prefer.
- Mushrooms: Brown Shimeji are perfect, but shiitake or even button mushrooms will do nicely.
- Sauce: A blend of soy sauce, mirin, honey, garlic and gochujang will awaken your taste buds!
Recipe steps :
- 1 - Brown the beef in a hot pan with a little sesame oil. Meanwhile, chop the vegetables (green onions and mushrooms).
- 2 - Prepare the sauce: mix the sesame seeds, soy sauce, mirin (or cooking sake), honey (or brown sugar), crushed garlic clove and gochujang (or sriracha).
- 3 - Prepare the noodles: While the beef is cooking, boil your noodles in water, as indicated on the packet. You don't need to keep an eye on them for long: just three minutes in an airtight tin and they're ready!
- 4 - Add the mushrooms: Once the meat starts to brown, add the mushrooms and let them soak up the flavours.
- 5 - Mix everything together: Drain the noodles and mix with the meat, mushrooms and sauce. Sauté for a few minutes to allow all the flavors to blend well.
- 6 - Finish in style: Serve in a bowl or soup plate, and add a pinch of sesame seeds and a little green onion for the finishing touch!
Tips and advice
- Not a fan of beef? Replace it with chicken, tofu or even a poached egg for a vegetarian version that's just as delicious!
- Looking for more vegetables? Add peppers, zucchini or spinach for an even healthier, more colorful dish.
- For an even more complete dish: Serve with miso soup or a small Japanese cucumber salad, for example!
