A Special Occasion
Tomorrow is my first wedding anniversary. A very suitable occasion to slow down and eat with feeling.
As the two of us are Chefs and the third member of our household is a K-9( who eats with gusto at EVERY meal) it is quite obvious that we will want to cook something together.. we love cooking together. A lot of people ask me 'So, who does most of the cooking?' and honestly our lives are so crazy often it is the person who has the time on any given day. We like to eat out. More and more however I find that I am having a better experience at home because of the wonderful atmosphere we have, and, to put it quite simply: we cook great food together. I was thinking a lot about this first year of our marriage and remembered our honeymoon. We went to the heaven of food lovers: Italy: more specifically: The Salone del Gusto in Turin: http://www.salonedelgusto.com/ We rented a little self contained studio so we could cook a little with food that we purchased at the open air markets. My taste buds are tingling with the memories!!! One morning we bought a fresh Porcini mushroom. It weighed more than 250g!! Here is the market we bought it from: We cooked the Porcini very simply: We sliced it up, sweat it gently with some olive oil, a small amount of shallot, threw in some fresh herbs and tossed it with some freshly made fettuccine. There may have been a little diced fresh tomato - but not enough to detract from the Porcini. We drank a bottle of Nebiolo too :) Is your mouth watering yet? It should be.... I remember the intense, earthy flavor of this meal and trying so hard not to eat too fast- I wanted the experience to last longer- like when you are eating a meal and you leave your favourite part of the meal on the plate till last ( or, are you one of those people who gobble it up first???). From Turin we travelled to Alba (home of the famous Truffle Festival) http://www.piemonte-italy.info/cuneo/alba.html and then to Asti. Such fantastic memories. Tomorrow will be a wonderful day of slow cooking, delicious food and of course no anniversary is complete without bubbles... Yours Truly, Eat With Feeling related searches : Special
