Apfel Kuchen:
Traditional German apple cake is one of my all time favorite desserts. Although its simple and extremely easy to throw together its very comforting, warm and delicious. This time I made it a little different than normal by slicing my apples and layering them out in a flower design instead of placing the sliced apple cheeks on top. Instead of keeping it light and buttery, I decided to try it with a little whole wheat flower. To my surprise it was fantastic and almost nutty tasting, it was nothing short of delicious. I topped it with home made apple pie topping that I made during apple preservation this year and a generous scoop of French vanilla ice cream. Its not quite the traditional flavor but very similar to a big slice of apple pie, and honestly what is more American and comforting than a perfectly spiced piece of pie? I think I will play with this recipe even further sometime soon because I really did enjoy the classic flavors. related searches : Apfel
