Bewitched Halloween Cake

By Cafe Munchkin (Visit website)

The Halloween party dust is only just beginning to settle.  I am still in quite a daze after all the fun partying and the preparations leading up to them.  For Halloween weekend, I made 2 cakes – one for a my daughter’s teacher’s birthday and one for a Halloween party, 24 cupcakes for my daughter’s class and about 6 dozens cupcakes more for two Halloween parties and our home (I have to keep some for ourselves, too! :D).

The host of the first Halloween party we attended, Genie (her Halloween name ;) ),  requested me to make a cake for the party.  She wanted to use it as table decoration – a centerpiece, if you will – more than anything else.  She also didn’t mind if the cake decorations weren’t edible.  I accepted, of course!  For one, I have yet to make a Halloween-themed cake.  Two, I can’t say no to a friend.  My friend sent me a photo of how she wanted the cake to look like.  And I tried my darnedest best to have the cake look like the photo that was sent to me.

Here’s the cake…

Here’s the photo that was sent to me…

The photo is of a night light.  I didn’t realize it was so small until it was shown to me at the party.  Here are the cake and the night light side by side…

Had I known the houses were actually purple, I would have made purple houses instead of black.  But I’d like to think I didn’t do so badly. :)  I made four separate houses instead of  just three  that are linked to each other, and used them to decorate 4 points of the cake.

That’s the first house you see in the two cake photos above.  Here’s house number 2…

And house number 3…

Unfortunately, I don’t have a photo of house number 4. :(  All cake decorations – the witch, the moon, the bats and all 4 houses – were edible, having been painstakingly cut out of gumpaste.  As much as possible, I want my decorations to be edible.

The cake was an 8-inch round, 4-inch high, Vanilla Chiffon with Custard Filling.  This was another fun cake to make!

I hope y’all had a wonderful Halloween weekend as did we. :)

Mabuhay!
