Light Box

By A Healthy Passion (Visit website)

I don’t know about you, but I do most of my cooking/photography at night. It is so disappointing after making a beautiful dinner, plating it, making your boyfriend wait 20 minutes to eat because your taking pictures, and finally looking at your work only to find out the pictures are ugly because of the lighting and you have to wait until the morning to rephotograph the food.  After three months in the blogging world I figured there had to be a better solution. I have seen several bloggers get beautiful photography by making their own light boxes at home, but never thought it was something I would actually be able to do.

Well I was clearly wrong and after Dutch got me the supplies for Valentines Day my vision of having my own light box quickly became a reality!

Supplies:

1 Large Box

3 utility lamps

3 100watt daylight bulbs

1 white sheet or tablecloth

duct  tape

extension cord

xacto knife

Since there are about a million tutorials out there on how to build a light box I wont go into details you can find them herehere and here. I will however show you my role in the building of this light box, the documentation!

Our supplies!

My manly man with my pink xacto knife ;) (notice the yellow lighting, exactly why I NEEDED a light box).

My baby box after we cut out the three sides ahh I love it already.

After cutting out the sides we taped the table cloth over the holes to diffuse the light.

We forgot to remove the inside flaps, whoops

while doing so Dutch poked a hole in the tablecloth, FAIL! Sooo we had to redo the entire side which took what seemed like forever.

Finally after my long wait (about 1 hour) my box was finished! I couldn’t wait to start photographing everything in sight.

First up my yogi tea, which after tasting it this morning I don’t really like, it burns on the way down BLEH! But it is  keeping  my kidneys healthy so I guess I can tolerate it occasionally! :(

I do however love the little inspirational quotes that come attached to each tea bag. (note this was not taken in the light box)

Some lovely Chobani greek yogurt!

Tomatoes

and a fruit bows prepared by Dutch :)

Here’s a picture of some of the stuff I picked up at the store that  I took earlier to compare the quality of the light box pictures with regular lighting. I think the light box really makes a HUGE difference .

I rewarded my handy man with some O.N.E coconut water

I picked the Mango flavor because Dutch loveess mangoes, but this was not as good as I had hoped, wayy too sweet!

He decided he would rather eat a mango instead, and I would have to agree!

So there’s my light box what do you think?

Do the quality of the pictures make a difference when you are reading a blog?

Would you build a light box?

Honestly I think the light box was definitely worth the effort and the cost I love the way my pictures turned out I cant wait to experiment more. I just wish I could find somewhere to keep it permanently set up (I don’t think my roommates will let me keep it on the kitchen table).

So the weather is gorgeous today I need to plan out my to do list and make some time to get outside.

I’m currently noshing on a bowl of overnight oats with Silk unsweetened almond milk, a half a scoop of Sun Warrior Vanilla protein and half a Dutch Dark Chocolate Nourish bar!

Yum-O!

Have a fab Friday! See you later tonight with a yummy pizza recipe from dinner last night which unfortunately I made before the light box so the pics are so so, but it tasted deelish!
