Primo's, Gourmet Hotdogs, Leeds.

By mynomnomnom (Visit website)

Just a quick one for you. Popped into Leeds last weekend and was stuck for a quick lunch when my boyfriend suggested that we tried Primo's, a hotdog cafe at the Corn Exchange. It had been one of those places that we had passed for weeks, mentioning it every time we walked passed as if it was the first time we had noticed it, not really paying too much attention. But, it was starting to rain and we had to think quick- Primo's it was.

The Corn Exchange is an interesting development. It's in a brilliant location and is an absolutely stunning building, but as a development it feels as if it is lacking a little. The proposed 'food emporium' is now a half-empty, somewhat cold building that has been stifled by the recession and is now opening its units to other types of retailers. Nonetheless, Primo's is a prime example of what the rest of the development should be filled with- interesting independent food outlets.

Inspired by New York street vendors, Primo's sells gourmet hotdogs (with 6 different types of sausages might i add). We got speaking to the owner (a very enthusiastic gentleman) who proudly told us about the machine that they are cooked on, imported all the way from the Big Apple. Aside from being inventive and good quality, i was assured that they are as authentic as they come- all toppings are added raw; onions are raw and the cheese is unmelted- apparently just how it is across the pond. They were really quite yummy.

The rest of the menu is equally as appealing, with bagels, salads and coffees, and they sell a few shelves of novelty american groceries- Lucky Charms and Hershey's chocolates. It's kinda cool.  Pop in for a quick lunch and see what you think.

It really would be lovely to see the rest of the development filled with similar establishments as these are exactly what is needed. Perhaps i'll even open my dream deli there and encourage others to do the same! Austerity they say? Psshhh.
