Sambhar in Slow Cooker

Yum Yum Yum...these are the only words to describe how my sambhar turned out in my slow cooker..Oh, the smell was nostalgic..it was just like how u feel when u go to Udipi..

Here is how I made it:

I put toor dal along with leftover salad(Reddish, Tomatoes, Onions & Carrots) I had from previous day(a good way to use leftover salad) and salt and turmeric. I cook this on high setting for four hrs. After that I turned the setting on low and I made my tarka on stove.

I heated some oil, added Jeera, Heeng, shredded coconut, tamarind paste, sambhar powder, and 1/4 cup of fine chopped onions. Let it brown for 2 minutes. Then I added this tarka into the dal and let that cook for two hrs on low. (dont put the pan into sink yet, we will need this for another tarka in two hours)

Then I switched off the slow cooker and made another tarka for garnishing.

I heated some oil in the same pan and added pinch of heeng, black mustard seeds, whole red chilies and kari patta. Added to the sambhar and Voila its ready to be enjoyed along with some Dosa & Medu Vadas & coconut chutney.

I'm telling u girls having a slow cooker in the house feels like another helping hand in the house..I wish I had bought it sooner.
