Spicy Podi's adding spice to our health and life.!
Hello Buddies,
Good day to all! Today, I bring for you the different spice podi's that fill my kitchen and our daily breakfast and meals. I use some as herbal medicine for cold and throat irritation. ![]() Thanks to Smitha of Kadumanga for the event 'Colours Of Taste - Powders: Podi's as an accompaniment', to remind and bring for you my tiny kitchen treasures. I'm sending all the below entries to the event. 1. Manja paal podi(Turmeric jeera Podi): ![]() This is my Mother-in-law's herbal medicine for cold & cough. This is a best cure for early stage of cold & cough. Ingredients: 1. Dried Turmeric Stick(Virali manjal) - 3, 2. Cumin seeds(Jeeragam) - 3 tsp, 3. Black peppercorns - 4 tsp, 4. Garlic Pods - 2, 5. Palm sugar(Karupatti) - 2 tsp. How to make this: 1. Grind the turmeric stick in a blender and powder it in to a fine powder and store seperately. 2. Dry roast the cumin seeds, pepper & garlic and grind it and store seperately. Directions of Use: In a cup of medium heat milk, add a spoon of turmeric powder and a spoon of cumin-pepper powder, little Karupatti(palm sugar) and mix well. Drink a cup before sleep at night for 3 days, cold will disappear...! 2. Idli sambar podi: ![]() This is my Grandma's recipe. She adds this podi for sambar made for idly. Ingredients: 1. Chana dal - 5 tsp, 2. Coriander seeds - 1/4 cup, 3. Red dry chillies - 8, 4. Peppercorns - 3 tsp, 5. Asefeotida Powder - 5 tsp, 6. Cumin seeds - 3 tsp, 7. Methi/Fenugreek seeds - 2 tsp, 8. Curry leaves - 2 strings, 9. Salt - 3 tsp, 10. Oil - 2 tsp. How to make this? 1. Heat oil in a kadai, roast all the above ingredients except salt and cool. 2. Grind, Powder it in a blender with salt and store in an air-tight container. Add it in usual sambar too and relish the spiciness you get..!!:) 3. Paruppu Podi (Dhal podi): ![]() Ingredients: 1. Tuvar dal - 1/2 cup, 2. Bengal gram skinned(Pottu kadalai) - 1/4 cup, 3. Red chilly - 2, 4. Peppercorns - 1 tsp, 5. Garlic pods - 2, 6. Curry leaves - 2 strings, 7. Salt - 3 tsp, 8. Ghee - 2 tsp. How to make this? Heat ghee in kadai and roast the ingredients 1-6. Cool and grind it with salt in to a fine powder. Store in an air-tight container. Tastes great with Steaming rice and ghee..! 4. Idli Dosa Podi: ![]() Ingredients: 1. Urad dal - 1 cup, 2. Channa dal - 1/4 cup, 3. Coriander seeds - 2 tsp, 4. Cumin seeds - 5 tsp, 5. Black peppercorns - 4 tsp, 6. Red dry chilly - 8, 7. Asefeotida - 6 tsp, 8. Salt - 4 tsp (as per taste), 9. Curry leaves - 3 strings, 10. Oil - 1/2 tsp. How to make this? 1. Roast the urad dal, channa dal, cumin, coriander seeds, peppercorns, red dry chilly, curry leaves each in oil and let it to cool. 2. In a blender, put the roasted items, asefeotida, salt and grind in to a fine powder. 3. Store in a air-tight container and relish. Hope you all enjoyed my podi's. Enjoy!!:) related searches : Spicy
