Tasty treasures

By ChefBliss.com (Visit website)

I will share the sweeter offerings in my next post. Today I am going to share the more savory bites from Share Our Strength's Taste of the Nation. Thanks to Foodbuzz I was fortunate enough to have an evening of delicious bliss!

#2 (in the top picture) was some wonderful warm Naan with the most incredible chutneys. I have never been a great fan of chutney due to a bad taste as a child. Sadly I have been missing out. These wonderful offerings from Vindalho were simply delicious. The rhubarb chutney (on the right, above) was a wonderful mouthful of sweet and tart rhubarb flavor. My favorite was the coriander. Spicy, tangy, with a smooth cilantro flavor, it was so fantastic. We had dinner at Vindalho a year ago and our meals were delicious. These chutneys have sealed the deal on a return visit.

#6 (in the top picture) was Pico de Gallo with pork rinds, and some Salsa Verde. I was skeptical on the Pico de Gallo (it is often too oniony for me) but the flavors were so beautifully melded I was left wanting more. Flavor, a little heat, perfect! The Salsa Verde was spicy, flavorful and had beautiful chunks in it. I could eat it with a spoon.

#7 was pork sausage with apricot jelly (I think) from Noble Rot, and it was a wild burst of flavor, perfectly done! They also had some tongue appetizers. I was fed too much tongue as a child, but it did look good. I was almost tempted!

#8 was cold asparagus soup with creme fraishe. It was rich, creamy, flavorful. Oh so good! The perfect taste of asparagus.

Lauro Kitchen had these wonderful roasted asparagus, #9 and above. Lots of great flavor here. I like baby asparagus tips but these I consumed with pleasure. So delicious!

#11 was pizza from Tastebud Farm, and you can imagine how excited I am to know they will be at my local farmers market, hopefully with pizza! This pizza was a rustic crust, not too chewy, too crunchy, or too doughy, topped with asparagus and bacon. This was a culinary match made in heaven. I took a bite and wanted to cry, it was just so good!

#12? 5 Star Foodie hit the nail on the head with her guess. It was also from Tastebud Farm, a perfect bagel topped with cream cheese and RHUBARB PUREE. It was incredible and I can't wait to get my hands on some rhubarb! This is definitely something I will seek out again (it's always a nice treat to eat what others make) but I will also make this at home. Perfect for a lazy weekend treat!

See you tomorrow with desserts and a few restaurant names I'm still verifying. Firehouse was one of the restaurants, as well as Nuestra Cucina and Higgins. Enjoy!
