"the four coursemen", my new favorite cooking show
Ok, I discovered my new favorite cooking program: I love this show! It premiered tonight on the Cooking Channel and I am loving it. What do I like the most? This show is very unique in its look and its approach. You immediately get that they are all about friends, food, and working with the local farmers at the various locations they go. The cool thing is that they are not stuck in a kitchen the whole show. In the premier show, as they will do through every show, they go to a different town they choose "based on farmers or producers of some ingredients that intrigue them". I am totally loving this concept because there are not that many shows out there that talk about the small local farmers and the sustainable practices they use to ensure high quality in what they grown and raise. But my favorite part about the show is that at the end, they prepare a beautiful dinner that showcases what those local farmers (the same we meet during the show) produce; then they are invited to dinner. The only girl in the Four Coursemen group is also the wine pairing expert. She really knows her wine, and as someone who loves wine, I appreciate the fact that she actually explains why she paired a particular wine to a specific dish. Bottom line is that the show covers the full spectrum of the dinning experience. Just so you can start salivating now, here is the wonderful menu they put together:
First Course: Darien Shrimp w/ Saffron Ravioli, Parmesan, Black Eyed Peas, Shrimp Broth Wine: Cusamano, Insolia, IT '09 Second Course: Ossabaw Hog Belly w/ Boiled Peanut Mash, Scallion Vinaigrette, Fried Sage Wine: Marc Colin, Saint Aubin Premier Cru, FR '04 Third Course: Woodland Gardens Arugula w/ Radish Vinaigrette, Elberton Blue, Crispy Hog Ears Wine: Brigaldara, Valpolicella, IT '08 Fourth Course: Roasted Ossabaw Hog w/ Local French & Wax Beans, Apple Cider Gastrique, Kale, Pecans Wine: Domaine Chauveau, Chinon FR '05 Fifth Course: Butternut Squash Pie w/ Green Apple Sorbet, Pecan Praline Wine: Launioa Pere & Fils Blanc de Blanc, FR NV Yeah! Sounds and looked absolutely delicious! It is a great food experience, even if only watching on TV, and it will make you think aoutside the box when it comes to cooking. In the end you get to meet some great characters, and people who obviously love food and put care into bringing it to your table. The premiere show tooks us to Athens, Georgia. I cannot wait to see where we go next. I am fairly certain this show will be a hit. to learn more about these talented group visit them on their website at http://www.thefourcoursemen.com/. Great work!
