Trattoria Mercatino - a little piece of Italy in Duesseldorf

Trattoria Mercatino is a quaint little Italian Restaurant situated on the same road as the trade fair grounds of Messe Duesseldorf GmbH. Not that out of the way, one can get to the restaurant by taking the Underground U78 or U79 and stopping at Messe Osst / Stockumer-Kirchstrasse or bus 722 stopping just outside the Restaurant with the same stop name.

This particular Mercatino has been part of my cult eating habits whenever I visit Duesseldorf, and I have had many fun times here with friends and family. It's friendly atmosphere and somewhat quick service is accompanied by its extremely scrumptious food.

This time I went with my parents and a colleague to savour the tastes of Mercatino. We ordered the following: Antipasti Mista (plate of mixed antipasti vegetables), Spaghetti alla Marinara (Seafood Spaghetti), Linguini mit Pfifferlingen (Linguini with Chanterelles) and Pizza Masti (Pizza with Prosciutto and Vegetables).

The added bonus when coming to Tratorria Mercatino is that they serve piping hot buns from the oven. Baked in house, they serve this little buns with two kinds of spreads, a cheese spread with herbs and butter with herbs.

The texture of the pasta dishes was al dente with just the right amount of spice and ingredients. The Linguini alla Marinara was not overpowering with cream making it an absolute delight to eat. The pizza was slightly soft in terms of the centre of the crust but still it did not lack in the taste department. The winner of the day was still the Spaghetti with Chanterelles. Fresh chanterelles are hard to find what more having the opportunity to eat it. The antipasti was also prepared exquisitely. So many dishes plus 2 bottles of water only cost us Euro 50. With 4 of us eating, that is a steal!

So, for someone who's looking to have a good meal and a reasonable price, this is the place to be. Plus, friendly service from the owners would definitely rule!
