This fraisier puts a French pastry in the record books!

On Wednesday April 23, 2025, the town of Argenteuil in the Val-d'Oise region of France entered the record books with the longest strawberry cake ever made. This pastry-making feat, orchestrated by La Maison Héloïse and its chef Youssef El Gatou, beat the previous record held by Italy since 2019! :)

A 121.88 metre (399 ft, 8 in) cake

The giant strawberry plant measured precisely 121.88 metres (399 ft, 8 in), surpassing the previous Italian record of 100.48 metres (329 ft 7 in) by more than 20 metres (65 ft). Approval was granted by a Guinness World Records judge, validating this culinary feat.

Impressive figures

To make this monumental dessert, the pastry chefs used.

  • 350 kg strawberries (771 pounds)
  • 415 kg crème mousseline (914 pounds)
  • 150 kg sugar (330 pounds)
  • 4,000 eggs

The cake was assembled in Argenteuil's municipal ice rink, which provided a suitable space to keep it fresh.

A mobilized team

Some twenty pastry chefs, led by Youssef El Gatou, worked through the night to assemble the strawberry cake. The choice of the ice rink as the venue meant that the cake could be kept cool until tasting.

A party for everyone

After certification, the strawberry slices were distributed to local residents, as well as to the town's senior citizens, firefighters, police and hospital staff. The event was also enlivened by the presence of double Olympic figure skating champion Philippe Candeloro and his company.
