Pizza-style boat rolls stuffed with tomato sauce, ham and mozzarella
For an original idea for an aperitif or starter presentation, try our little pizza-style boats! After the flaky croissants, we tried the pizza dough version, for an even crispier result :-) A superb idea to make with the children, since these little loaves will be cut into the shape of boats, for a cooking workshop super fun! Inside, they are generously garnished with tomato sauce, ham and meltingly soft mozzarella cheese. Follow our step by step recipe below ;-)

Preparation
- Unroll the pizza dough and cut it into 4. Form balls of dough and roll them out to obtain circles/ovals.
- Cut a slit on the left and one on the right.
- Spread 1 Tbsp. of tomato sauce in the center, leaving a little space around the edges. Season with pepper and sprinkle with oregano.
- Add ham cut into small pieces and cover with grated mozzarella.
- Fold the left edge over the stuffing then the right edge over it. Pinch the top edge and the bottom edge.
- Repeat the operation with the other circles/ovals of dough then place them on a baking tray covered with parchment paper.
- Brush the buns with beaten egg. Sprinkle with oregano, poppy and sesame. Add mozzarella in the center for even more fondant.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for 35 minutes. Check the cooking. And there you are, your pizza-style boat rolls are ready!
Observations
Conservation:
Store these rolls in the refrigerator for 1 or 2 days in an airtight container.
Stuffing:
You can stuff these pizza-style buns using tomato sauce, ham and grated mozzarella, but also fresh cheese and salmon for example or cheese and fresh spinach! Don’t hesitate to stuff your buns with your favorite ingredients!
Can we use puff pastry?
You can of course make this recipe with puff pastry if you want to. In this case, cut circles directly in the dough.
