Observations

Can whey be replaced in this waffle recipe?
You can replace the whey with the same weight of almond powder, flour or even milk powder. Beware: the texture and taste will be slightly different. The whey will, however, add more protein to the batter!

Which whey should I use to make waffles?
Here, we've used vanilla whey. You can use a whey with another flavoring if you wish, or a plain whey. In the latter case, you can add a little vanilla extract to the batter.

Is it necessary to let the batter rest before baking the waffles?
No, you can cook them right away! If you want to let the batter rest, wrap it in cling-film and place it in the fridge, where it will thicken slightly.

Can I use another type of milk?
You can use classic milk: skimmed, semi-skimmed or whole. You can also use vegetable milk without any problem. Almond milk (our favorite!) brings a mild, slightly sweet flavor, while soy milk gives a softer texture.

Can flour be replaced in this recipe?
You can easily replace the flour with oat flakes!

Why use a chopper to blend the dough?
The chopper (or blender) will help you obtain a smooth dough more quickly! All the ingredients will be well incorporated. You can, of course, make this recipe without a chopper by using a large bowl and a whisk. Beware, whey can sometimes form small clumps if not properly incorporated.

How can I prevent waffles from sticking to the waffle iron?
It's important to preheat the waffle iron and grease it with an oil spray to prevent the waffles from sticking.

What topping should I add to whey waffles?
You could add fresh fruit or peanut butter, for example! Don't hesitate to top them with your favorite spreads and ingredients!

How do I store these protein waffles?
You can store these waffles in an airtight container in the fridge for 2 to 3 days. If you want to keep them longer, you can store them in the freezer! Simply reheat them in the toaster (or for a few minutes in the oven).
