For The Rice:

1 1/2 cups white rice - rinsed and drain

1 1/2 cups thick coconut milk (I used the ready-made carton box ones)

1 1/2 cups water

1 tbsp turmeric/kunyit powder


1/2 ginger bud/bunga kantan

1/2 inch ginger

5 shallots

1 serai/lemon grass

5 long beans/kacang panjang

4 limau purut/kaffir lime leaves

** all these ingredients to be sliced thinly or shredded

200g salmon - deep fried and flaked

2 calamansi lime - extract juice

salt to taste


  • Add all the ingredients for the rice into the rice cooker, give a good stir and cook as usual.
    Once done, let it cool down first before stirring in with a chopstick so that the rice does not become lumpy and gummed up together.
    The rice and all of the rest of ingredients goes into a bowl. Stir and toss.
    For the spicy taste, serve with sambal belacan (its only if you prefer it this way)
