Travelogue: a short getaway to Batam! - Day 2
It must have quite some time since I wrote the 1st part of my Batam get away in June earlier this year, so if you need a recap, you can always click here! :)
And before i start digressing, here's Day 2 of the get away with Deserved one and the buddies! 13th June 2010: a short getaway to Batam - Day 2 We dragged ourselves out of bed early the next morning so that we'll be in time for the buffet breakfast and also, so that we'll be able to digest the breakfast in time for a swim before the check out! :Ddeserved one, xiang and me at breakfast... Round 1... and Round 2... and my sunny side up that looks like an alien! isn't it? haha... =P then last but not least, a bowl of mixed cereals with fresh milk to complete my breakfast! =X Anyway, if you were to ask me, I can only say that the food for the spread of the buffet breakfast was just edible. In fact, i was looking forward to an American styled breakfast and scrambled eggs but the food was kinda disappointing. It's Holiday Inn and i was really expecting the food to be as good as their rooms even though that was just the complimentary breakfast that came with booking their rooms. I mean seriously, who won't right? Guess they'll really have to do something about that... But that aside, we were filled and done with breakfast! And in order to make sure that we have nicely digested all the food we ate, we decided to walk around and explore Holiday Inn! :D groupie shot by the pool! :) it definitely rocks to have wide angle lens and a hunky long pair of arms to hold up a fully equipped DSLR aint it? haha...thanks Ungku! :D one of the blocks in Holiday Inn... Us outside the spa and massage place in Holiday Inn... while Deserved one makes his daily morning trip to the toilet...haha! pearl, me and the pretty and flowering Erythrina fusca tree... that's me in green, amidst the greens! :D the flowers of the Erythrina fusca tree again... if you are wondering how i knew the name of the species of this particular tree... all i can say that it's just my profession anyway. haha! Then finally, after all the waiting and the wondering around, we're finally heading into the pools! And to start off with, the boys or rather, the BIG KIDS targeted the slides that is actually supposed to be meant for the kids...haha! :D deserved one doing the slide... we had a great laugh at how he landed with his feet sticking straight out! LOL! this is Xiang...the skinny one but with an equal huge splash! =P and last but not least! Ungku, the superman! HAHA! a mushroom, the big boys and me... getting back into the main pool after all the fooling around in the kids' pool... =P We definitely enjoyed the swimming and dipping session in the morning! Love the pool to bits or maybe i haven't been swimming for a very long time...haha! We're really enjoying so much that it's such a huge dread to have to get out of the waters and head back to the room so that we can shower and pack so that we can check out in time in the afternoon... just 1 night and this is the kind of mess we can afford... =X the balcony in our room with a chair and table... the view from the balcony... the pool hidden behind the lush greens from the balcony... you can see the kids enjoying themselves but you won't hear their screeches! AWESOME! so it definitely looks like someone's enjoying his soak in the bathtub... while i stay wet and shivering outside in the room! =S So apart from looking forward to the swimming/dipping session in our hotel, we planned the day so that we don't miss the MUST HAVE while we were there in Batam! can you guess what is it?... :D Yes, it might have been insane but we actually paid a cab fare of SGD$20 so that we can get from Waterfront City to the Mega Mall at Batam Centre (just across the Batam Centre Ferry Terminal) just for A&W! A&W Rootbeer float! anyone miss this? :D 2 pieces of A&W's crispy and spicy chicken... A&W's curly fries... and yes! that's my set meal from A&W... it's approximately SGD$7.00 for the meal and with the additional SGD$20 for the cab fare just to get there, it's probably about SGD$17.00 per person for an A&W in total! I know, it's a little pricey but it's all worthwhile for something you no longer can get in Singapore isn't it? =P By the way, if you were wondering why i mentioned nothing about my shopping loot, I probably can only tell you that you really shouldn't be looking forward to shopping in Batam. But probably you might like the stuffs they sells there but I'm so sorry, it's totally not my type and i am so not attracted at all despite the shopaholic in me! haha! look at how terribly depressed we are! Guess what! We missed our ferry due to unforeseen circumstances and we were stuck in the transit area at Batam Centre Ferry Terminal for a good 3 hours and i had to smash the promise to my dad that i will come straight from the Harbourfront ferry terminal to visit him at the hospital after i reach back in Singapore that day. I seriously felt super terrible about missing the ferry... but anyway, here's us finding means and ways to entertain ourselves while we are stuck inside the transit for 3 hours and we're just so lucky that there was a free (but weak) wireless connection but thankfully there was at least something...haha! So after a long 3 hours wait, we finally got on the next ferry home and that's the end of the short get away to Batam in June! :) All in all, we paid SGD$69 for the tour and lunch on the 1st day and also the hotel room for the night. And that's approximately about SGD$200 (or lesser) per person for all the additional food, massage, and all other random stuffs. So if you are interested, you can visit the Cheery Travels website for more information! Yes, I LOVE SHORT GETAWAYS! :D Wow! it was almost half a year ago since this trip and I haven't imagined that i am still able to recall most of the information! haha...But anyway, just less than 6 months and i have consolidated another stamp on my passport during getaway trip to Phuket recently! Doesn't it just proves that i seriously love getaways? Yes I haven't been able to peeled my eyes away from the Jetstar or AirAsia website and looking out for super value flights so that i can plan my next getaway! hehe... :D anyway, if you are interested, do keep a look out for my Phuket travelogue!
