Anchovies (ikan bilis) mee/noodles soup

2 tbsp anchovies

Yellow noodles/mee (as needed)

4 cloves garlic (chopped)

10 fish balls

1 piece fish cake (sliced)

1 stalk onion leaves (shredded)

1 tsp anchovies granules

3 tbsp olive oil

1/2 litre of water

salt to taste


  • When oil is heated, fry the garlic until crunchy and golden brown in colour. Remove and keep aside
    In the same oil, fry the anchovies until brown in colour, after which pour 1/2 litre of water inside.
    Add in the the granules and salt to taste.
    Let it come to a boiling point.
    Drain away the anchovies and pour back the soup in the pot.

    To Serve
    Into a serving bowl, add noodles, fish balls, fish cake slices, fried garlic and spring onions on top.
    Pour the soup over and serve with a dipping sauce of sliced either birds eye chillies or red chillies with some soy sauce added inside.
