Croatian bean soup (grah)

- 400 g of dried borlotti beans
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 250 g csabai salami, sliced
- 1 rounded dessert spoon of vegeta
- 3 dessert spoons of oil
- 2 rounded, dessert spoons of plain flour
- 1 clove of garlic, chopped
- 2 teaspoons of paprika


Step 1

Sort through the beans, rinse them and place in a large pot with just enough water to cover them. Bring to boil, drain then fill again with water halfway up the side of pot.

Step 2

Add in the onion, salami, optional smoked meat and vegeta. Bring to boil, reduce heat then simmer for about 2 hours or until beans are tender.

Step 3

Check for seasoning, adding salt if needed. In a small pan place the oil and flour and cook, stirring, over medium heat until flour starts to cook then keep cooking for about 1 minute.

Step 4

Add the garlic and paprika, mix through and stir for about 30 seconds then add to Grah. Cook Grah for another 10 minutes. Serve in bowls with bread.
