Kara and sweet idiyappam / indian rice noodles

Ingredients

Number of serving: 4

1)Indian Rice Noodles / Idiyappam:

1 cup of Rice Flour

or Soak the rice in water for about 2 hrs. Drain the water and dry them indoors.Grind it to make a fine powder.

Salt to taste


For Sweet Idiayappam:

2 teaspoons. of grated coconut

1 teaspoon. of Ghee

Sugar as needed

Roasted cashews ( optional)


2)For Kara Idiyappam (2 methods):


First method:

1 teaspoon. of oil

1 teaspoon. of mustard and urad dhal

2 red chillies

A bunch of curry leaves


Second Method:

1 teaspoon. of oil

1 teaspoon. of mustard and urad dhal

2 red chilllies

1 1/2 teaspoon. lemon extract

1/2 teaspoon. of turmeric powder

A bunch of curry leaves

Preparation

  • 1)Indian Rice Noodles / Idiyappam:
    Mix 1 cup of rice flour with the required amount of boiled water and salt. Knead them into a smooth dough. Put a small portion of the dough in the Idiayappam mould and press them in Idli Moulds. Steam them till they are cooked well.
    For Sweet Idiayappam:
    Mix all the ingredients with the steamed Idiyappam.
  • 2)For Kara Idiyappam (2 methods):
    First method:
    Heat oil in a pan. Add the mustard and urad dhal. When they stop spluttering, add the curry leaves and red chillies. Finally add the steamed Idiyappam and mix them well.
    Second Method:
    Heat oil in a pan. Add the mustard and urad dhal. When they stop spluttering, add the curry leaves and red chillies. Add the lemon extract along with a pinch of turmeric powder . Finally add the steamed Idiyappam and mix them well.
